'Hey, all =) Through the storm of the last few years and the unexpected upheaval of much of my life during the making of this album, Im incredibly excited to release POWERNERD tomorrow for you all...

This is one of 4 albums I've been working on concurrently and part of the theme of change and progression as a person. Through all the ups and downs in life, the one thing that remains constant is the awareness that I don't know anything at all, but the awareness of the beauty and interconnectedness that I feel in everything makes surrendering to chaos an act of faith rather than resignation. I didn't have the energy to pretend I was anything more than I was during the making of this record, and it acts (unexpectedly) as an album outlining the process of loss and grief, but ending in a place of hope.

I don't have any statement I'm trying to make... I just really wanted to be honest. It's a simple record, but also one that was written and recorded during one of the most difficult periods of my life so far. I'm sure many of you will relate to that kind of thing in these times, so my sincere hope is that I was able to articulate my experiences in ways that may have some use in your world as well.

This album, POWERNERD, starts the 'Moth Project' which includes PowerNerd, The Moth, Axolotl, and Ruby Quaker. I'm so fortunate to be able to continue doing what I love during these times and my only hope is to continue.

I know there's no real reason to purchase music nowadays, so if you've chosen to do so: thank you from the bottom of my heart. But if you're not able to for whatever reason, I truly hope there's something on here that you may enjoy as well.

The next albums are exceptionally complicated, so PowerNerd is meant to begin the process more linearly, and musically. I love it, Im proud of it, and getting through the chaos of modern life and not letting it break us is the true definition of POWERNERD, so once again: I'll keep trying if you do... No giving up!

Love Dev =) '

The Devin Townsend Podcast; Episode 6 is with an artist named Blindboy out of Ireland who has created some of my favourite content over the past few years. From his band ‘The Rubberbandits’ to his numerous TV shows, podcasts and books, he’s a great hang and unafraid to investigate the same sort of stuff I like to think about. To those wondering about the ads for Inside Out bands on this podcast, please consider this: touring is where artists generally make income in this day and age and in order to really get into my work and write without interruption for this year or so, I needed to keep the boat afloat and Inside Out has generously allowed me to do that by funding this podcast. Please understand they are doing me a tremendous service by allowing this to happen, so it means a lot to be able to help them out in return.
Hope you’re well, keep writing 🙂 -Devin

Due to an unforeseen manufacturing delay, the release of Devin Townsend’s new album ‘Lightwork’ has been moved back one week to the 4th November 2022.

We are incredibly sorry about this, but hope you can wait just one more week to experience Devin’s brilliant new record. To tide fans over, expect a brand new track to drop in the next two weeks

â–ș Devin Townsend – launches video for ‘Call of the Void’; second single from new album ‘Lightwork’, due out 28th October 2022.

Pre-order here: devin-townsend.lnk.to/Lightwork

Following months of hard work finishing the album, as well as an extensive European touring schedule that included 2 nights at London’s Royal Albert Hall, he is very pleased to reveal more new music taken from his much-anticipated studio album.

Today he is launching the video for ‘Call of the Void’, the second track taken from the album. Continuing the story that started in the clip for ‘Moonpeople’, it was once again created by Devin himself and you can watch it now below.

Devin comments: “The concept of the song is based around the ‘call of the void’ as an analogy for intrusive thoughts. I first heard the term describing 'the temptation to hurl yourself over the cliff when your driving a car'
or to 'put your hand in the fire when you know you’ll get burned’ etc
thoughts that you know are wrong, but you fear that you won’t be able to control the impulses to deny it. The point being: often I feel we have a choice, and trying not to lose sight of that was very important to me during recent difficult times.

In terms of the visuals:

All through lockdown, I really fell in love with ‘cabview train journeys’ that ‘Railway Cowgirl’ and others were posting on YouTube. Essentially, they are often full, first person journeys to cold and distant places, far from the chaos of the world, with a sense of constant momentum really calmed me. Maybe being on tour for so many years is what made it a comfort to watch during lockdown, but in any event, I started writing with the videos playing in the background in the studio and so I thought it would be appropriate for this video.

(Thank you 'Railway Cowgirl’ for the permission to use these clips. if while viewing this video you enjoy the footage, please visit her YouTube channel and check out all her wonderful content.)

In regards to the ’story’ of these three videos, the character is now on the train headed to where the Lighthouse is located.

So there you go
song two. It’s about not letting the chaos of the world shake you. Trying to stay calm at our center to try and get through it all.

Take care =)

Dev”
