I’m looking for a beginner to take part in a video with me. The idea will be set around us heading out for a days fishing together. I’m looking to try and make it education based. So I effectively act as a guide for you for the day (free) and we fish through some of the challenges you face or unknown knowledge you have around fly fishing. With the hope that it help both you, but also the audience learn things that many beginners may face. You’d need to be prepared to travel to south wales and spend the day in front of camera (but don’t worry, I’ll do most of the talking 😂) if interested you can message me on Facebook messenger. Tightlines 🎣
It’s been a while. Keep your eyes peeled for a video coming early next week! On the buzzers 🎣
Unfortunately this video won’t herald my return to YouTube just yet. But I’ve had this video edited since earlier this year and it felt right to release it.
We’re looking for a volunteer to help act as a controller for the bank trials at Garnffrwd fishery on the 28th of January. If you’re free and keen to help please let me know in the comments. Happy to put together a personal box of flies as a thank you 🙂
Someone thought it was a good idea to invite me onto radio and talk about fishing 😂
So if radio is something you enjoy and your up at 07:15 am tomorrow. Tune in to talk sport2 and the program ‘Fisherman’s blues’ where I’ll be joining the presenter of the show Nigel Botherway. If early mornings aren’t your thing. You can also listen restrospetively by going to the Talk Sport App. Tightlines 🙂
For those interested in seeing the Scottish videos 🏴, I have some disappointing news.
The hard drive containing the whole trip is faulty and has stopped responding after being damaged. It’s been sent off to specialist for recovery and they’ve come back to say that recovery wouldn’t be successful, so I’m left having to accept that the whole trip’s raw footage is gone for good.
Needless to say it’s frustrating and we had some excellent stories still to show of Harelaw, Burnhouse, The Haylie and Insch. The only positive I guess is I’ll have to use this as an excuse to visit Scotland again 🎣.
I’m playing around with an idea and that is to take a subscriber question and answer it in a 60 second YouTube ‘shorts’ video. This idea may work or it may not but I’m looking forward to trying it and see what the response is. So you guessed it, I need questions from you…

I've begun working on our Fishing trip to Scotland and what's apparent is that there were a lot of fish caught from fishery to fishery. Which isn't a bad thing but I'd assume nobody wants to see fish after fish etc... So I wanted a better idea of what you want to see when it comes to video formats. Which of the below would you prefer to watch?
10 minute video (Summarising the day, with key highlights only and likely a number of fish catches being edited out)
Sub 20 minute video (Covering the entire day, the good bits, the mistakes / learnings and a good number of fish being put on camera)
Also, we're considering recording a video podcast of Jeremy and I talking about the trip in it's entirety. Let us know in the comments if that's something you'd want to see.
Apologies for the delayed update. I wasn't quite expecting to receive 100's of comments but it was lovely to hear what makes you passionate about fly fishing.
There were some really heart warming stories in amongst the comments and it was difficult to select just one winner. So congratulations to John Owen (@johnowen4888) and Robin Vage (@robinvage4290), I have a 3rod holder and a 2rod holder to give to you. If you could please contact me on Facebook / Instagram with your details, so that I can arrange delivery.
Thank you to everyone who entered and I wish you a happy 2023 fishing season.
You’ve been asking for it so we thought we’d deliver. Tomorrow we head out to film Rhys Vs Jeremy 5! With scores being 2 apiece it’s going to be a competitive one! New venue, no practise and both of us desperate to take the win! Will age and experience favour Jeremy or will the recent competition fishing favour Rhys? Let us know in the comments. Tightlines 🎣🙂
On a recent autumn method video, I referred to the red apps worm as a brandling. Having spoken with Peter Appleby this evening, I’ve now been given some context behind the original red apps worm fly and how some anglers garnered the name ‘brandling’ for the exact same fly. It was good to hear the history and context of the fly from Peter himself. So please disregard my referencing in this video of this fly as a brandling, it is in fact the red apps worm.
