Windborne Singers

"A quartet the likes of which I haven't seen since Coope, Boyes and Simpson, the Watersons, or The Voice Squad. Just absolutely phenomenal!"

Internationally acclaimed vocal band Windborne specializes in close harmony singing, shifting effortlessly between drastically different styles of traditional music within the same concert. Their musical knowledge spans many continents and cultures, but they remain deeply rooted in American folk singing traditions.

They have toured as cultural ambassadors with the US State Department through American Music Abroad, and their latest project is to bring together songs from four hundred years of movements for people’s rights and sing them for the struggles of today. They were catapulted to new heights in 2017 when clip of them singing a protest song from the 1840s outside Trump Tower went viral.

One of our highlights at ‪@WOMEXexpo‬ was sharing our love of Corsican music by singing this paghjelle, E Muntagne d'Orezza, a modern composition in the traditional style written by one of our teachers, Jean-Etienne Langianni.

The text says "It was the mountains of Orezza that made me completely happy, the song of the dove and the partridge telling the whole world we held each other dearly."

Thanks to ‪@charliewirawiri‬ for capturing this video!
