(spoilers for Jan 21 puzzles) No videos today, but I still did some puzzles. If you're curious, here's how it went. (scroll through the images for all my solves)
A message for all the sudoku people from the organizers of the first ever SudokuCon:
Are you coming to SudokuCon in April? Tickets are now on sale at the full price, $140. Here's where to get them: sudokucon.com/tickets --- tell your friends!
Or are you still deciding? SudokuCon is meant to be for the whole sudoku community, not just the famous setters, the theory nerds, and the expert solvers. We've got a workshop by Thomas Snyder on "How to Solve Like a World Champion," ideal for novice and intermediate solvers, or anyone curious about competitions. We'll have some collaborative solving activities, in which you get to work with others to solve a puzzle. You'll also get a look into the world of puzzle streamers and video makers, as popular YouTubers Lucian, Nell Gwyn, and ChattyKathy do a stream right there in front of us. You can even dip a toe into puzzle setting, at a workshop hosted by Sudoku Skunkworks on how to create snackdoku -- very small sudoku.
There will be plenty of unstructured time for you to make new friends, or to sit off in a corner and do a puzzle or two. Everyone will have a nametag, so you don't have to recognize people. We're planning some more or less social activities, like the Thursday evening meetup, but if that's not your idea of fun, feel free to sit out. SudokuCon won't be overwhelmingly huge: since this is the first year, we expect at most 150 people (though it's hard to know for sure). And if you show up, you'll be able to tell people forever after that you were at the very first SudokuCon.
Can't make it this year? We expect to hold SudokuCon in different cities in future years, in Europe as well as the US. But there's always something special about the first time, and you're all welcome to join us.
Mark over at @CrackingTheCryptic solved one of my creations yesterday involving a tricky combination of numbered rooms and clones that likes to twist your brain in knots. Go watch him wrestle with it!
