Today, January 3rd, marks our 4th anniversary (of our website broadly-specific.com's founding)! Thank you to everyone who has been following our journey and enjoying each of our creations, whether it's articles on our website or videos on our new YouTube channel. Despite busy schedules and frequent short hiatuses, Broadly Specific stands tall as a creative platform where we can express our passion and write about the topics we love. No matter how frequent we take our "breaks", Broadly Specific will always be around! In 2024, we hope to create more video essays on our YouTube channel, write more articles for our website, and hopefully invite more creatives on board. We will forge ahead. Please look forward to it!
In our new review on our website, Johan Barry takes a personal angle in reviewing Smoking Tigers, relating his own experience in growing up as a Korean-American with the protagonists of director So Young Shelly Yo's new coming-of-age picture. Read below.
NEW VIDEO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7TzM... Discourses on the exploitative nature of generative AI and its effect on the art and entertainment industry are prevalent, with arguments on both sides stating not only whether AI art is ethical in its usage of artists' artworks as training data, but also whether they can be considered "art" at all. In our video, we recontextualize Brian De Palma's 1974 cult classic Phantom of the Paradise, a film which satirizes the exploitative music industry into a cautionary tale folktale on generative AI and its exploitative nature.
We are reviving our old Discord server as a new mode of communication with our followers from multiple platforms. Join the server to communicate with us directly or casually discuss other topics like film, art, music, games and so on and also receive community updates about our new posts, Patreon updates and videos!
