In Colombo, 3 churches and 3 luxury hotels fell victim to a series of coordinated suicide attacks by Islamic State-linked terrorists. Subsequently, 2 smaller explosions occurred at a residential complex in Dematagoda and a guest house in Dehiwala. The church bombings were carried out during Easter services in Negombo, Batticaloa and Colombo; The hotels bombed included the Shangri-La, the Cinnamon Grand, the Kingsbury and the Tropical Inn. According to the state intelligence service, a second wave of attacks was planned, but was prevented by government raids. In this worst Islamist terrorist attack in Sri Lanka, 269 people are killed and 500 people are injured.
