More than four years in the making - my new book “Imaginary Storefronts” will be out on March 14th and is already on pre-order on several online bookstores (more details on my website)!!!!
Title: 空想店構え マテウシュ・ウルバノヴィチ作品集III Title in English: "Imaginary Storefronts" Format: 144 pages, about 19 x 26 cm Cover: Soft cover + dust jacket Language: full English and Japanese text 日本語と英語 Publisher: MdN Corp. エムディエヌコーポレーション ISBN-10: 4295207462 ISBN-13: 978-4295207467
My new book of essays on art and art-making is finally up online for pre-order, and will be on sale in about a month! 320 pages, almost 100 illustrations, a lot of food for thoughts (I hope!) Details on my website. **This book has ONLY Japanese text**
A small but happy update: about two weeks ago, after three years, I managed to finish ALL the main illustrations for my upcoming book! Forty storefronts and twenty large floor-plan-like spreads, too! There is still, of course, a lot of work to do (including text for all of this, making-of, etc.), but only these images already get me to more than 120 pages of the planned book! Planned release - middle of 2024!
In the making process, I also managed to fill five of the big @midori_designphil Cotton sketchbooks with roughs and development drawings - maybe a THOUSAND pages!
After a Patreon-only period, my store selling original paintings and drawings is OPEN for everyone! Includes originals from "Tokyo Storefronts", "Tokyo at Night" and some comic pages too! This small store will be updated only a few times per year. mateuszurbanowicz.bigcartel.com
I'm thinking about turning ON monetization of my videos to see if that would cause YouTube algorithm overlords to recommend my videos to more people interested in art videos...
For all of you who had missed the Japanology Plus NHK short documentary about my work and my creative relationship with the city of Tokyo, here is this episode uploaded to YouTube!
Just a heads-up about a new, longer article I wrote on the topic of "moe styled" art. If you have 10 minutes I would be really glad if you read it on my blog here: artvsentropy.wordpress.com/2020/08/23/the-moe-styl… A fragment:
...an episode stands out in my memory. It happened when I was working on a short animation, and the time came to design the look of the main female character. A staff member asked me openly, and without any evident embarrassment: “OK, so what’s your fetish?.” I was so stunned that I just stood there silent, so he just went on “you know, glasses or dropping eye shape, or maybe sexy stockings?.” I just ignored his question at that time, but I cannot forget this exchange even now...
