Memorial Day carries a deeper history than many people realize. Black Americans have honored fallen soldiers since the end of the Civil War, when formerly enslaved people in Charleston, South Carolina gathered to properly bury Union soldiers and commemorate their sacrifice. From the very beginning, remembrance has been tied to dignity, freedom, faith, and survival.

So on this day of remembrance, let us honor those who gave their lives… but also remember the goodness of God and His faithfulness through every generation. Through war, injustice, hardship, loss, and uncertainty, God has still kept us. He has carried our ancestors, sustained our families, and covered us with grace we did not deserve but desperately needed.

And as Hebrews speaks of “so great a cloud of witnesses,” may we remember those who came before us — the praying grandmothers, the freedom fighters, the faithful elders, the soldiers, the marchers, the survivors, and the saints whose sacrifices still speak even after they are gone. We are standing on prayers, perseverance, and purpose that did not begin with us.

Today, may we pause not only to remember sacrifice, but to give thanks for mercy, protection, endurance, and the unfailing love of God.

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” (Lamentations)

“Haven’t I always come through for you?”

Happy Wednesday.

So often, anxiety creeps in when we look at our needs — financially, spiritually, emotionally, or mentally. Sometimes the mountain in front of us feels too high to climb and the burden too heavy to carry. But if you stop and reflect for a moment, you’ll realize that even in your hardest seasons, God has never failed to make a way for you. Right when you thought you wouldn’t make it, provision showed up. Strength showed up. Peace showed up. And that still, quiet voice reminds us: “Haven’t I always come through for you?”

Be encouraged this Wednesday afternoon. No matter what dilemma you may be facing — financial pressure, spiritual exhaustion, emotional heaviness, or uncertainty about tomorrow — God is still faithful. He is still a provider, still a keeper, and still able to do exceedingly above what we can ask or think. Trust Him again. He will come through for you, just like He always has.

“Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee.” -Psalm 55:22
