This photo brings back great memories of working with Mercer Ellington, Duke’s son and director of the Ellington Orchestra. It was a musical dream come true for me to play “Prelude to a Kiss” with them. Hearing their magnificent sound in person made me realize why they called it an orchestra instead of a band- it was unlike anything I had heard before, or since.
