In the past few weeks I've visited a few art museums to gather footage for the new YouTube series I'm working on. While doing so, I came across this painting by William Trost Richards which must be one of the best watercolor paintings I’ve EVER seen. He has been a favorite for many years, but when I came across this one at the National Gallery of Art (D.C.), it solidified it for me. Absolutely stunning work! Here are some close ups for you to enjoy as well. Just thought you might enjoy seeing it.

One of the artists I plan to feature in the upcoming series (part one) is Jocopo Pontormo. This piece of his titled The Deposition from the Cross (1528) was SO striking as I conduct my research. One thing that really stuck out to me is the simplicity of the color scheme and the fact that he simply uses deeper values of the same color in the fabrics to imply his shadows...yet it all produces the most beautiful overall impression. Isn't it gorgeous? It also seems so contemporary for his time. It's helped by the beauty of his lines and figures, but also by the specific selection of color and its placement. I just love this....had to share. (click to see full image)

I thought I'd let you all know that I'm finally able to begin work on a new Art Appreciation series. I've wanted to do this one for quite a while, but life got in the way. But now...research has begun. Yay! I have no idea how long it will take me (as I'm a one-woman show), but in the end it should be a 3 or 5-part series that I think you'll really enjoy. In the meantime, I hope you have some fun with the online class that I'm slowly loading onto the channel.

I decided to post a FREE class on my YouTube channel. The 27-lecture class cover almost everything that comes after you complete a painting, so it deals with topics such as signing your work, naming, framing, photographing, storing, lighting, cleaning, and shipping your paintings. I will post a new lecture every Tuesday at 4pm (EST) until the entire course is loaded.
I have been unable to work on a new appreciation video for quite a while and thought this might be a nice way to provide some content in the meantime. I hope you enjoy it! I just posted the Introduction and first lecture on signing your work. I'd love to know your thoughts! Here is a link to the playlist Introduction:

Just letting you all know that I rereleased one of my very first videos. I really need to clean up the voice over as well as make a few tweaks...including adding Turner to the mix (How did I overlook him?). For those of you who haven't seen this one, I hope you enjoy it! I was sad to loose the 170+ comments but I think it needed to be done.

Welcome to 2024! Personally, I was happy to say goodby to 2023. As I mentioned a few months back, I have been dealing with a family health issue. Actually...it was two. One resolved itself, but the other ended in death. In mid-December my father passed away after a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. He's at peace now and I'm sure in joy...and my mother is slowly adjusting.
So, I'm back to working on the YouTube video I started long ago. It feels great to be working on a production again! Thank you all so much for your kindness, understanding, and patience. I'm so blessed to have such a community of subscribers.

I almost didn't post this note because it's starting to look like I'm constantly giving excuses. And yet...it's just been that kind of year, I'm afraid. I am so sorry I haven't posted any videos in such a long time. I actually started preparing a new one that I've been excited to create, but life keeps getting in the way. For the past 4-5 weeks I've been dealing with a loved one's health situation and am more nurse right now than video creator. I'm hoping things will ease soon. Your patience is so appreciated.

I just released a new short video on a wonderful Canadian Artist names Maurice Cullen, which will be the first of a series of such videos for a new playlist on my channel: Masterpiece Shorts. I had posted two similar videos previously which I'll re-post at some point on this playlist. They had to be removed when I closed my Patreon page. Just doing some reorganizing.
So over the next few weeks I'll be posting a bunch of these shorts...I hope you like them!

For my subscribers who paint in some form of water media, I've attached a summary chart for my recent video, Professional Watercolor Papers: A Performance Comparison (https://youtu.be/zn45fBA1b6I). I hope you find this helpful! At some point, I'll try to post a downloadable version on my website. For now, you can right-click and download a small file version.

Watch out for spammer - Thank to a wonderful subscriber, I've been alerted to a spammer posing as myself and replying to many of the comments on my Community page (see image). This is NOT ME, so please don't respond or message them. I've reported the person to YouTube, so hopefully this won't happen again. - Jill
