A meeting was convened by the Speaker, Punjab Assembly to deliberate on the rising inflation and the issue of low crop prices being received by farmers. During the meeting, the Special Assistant to the Chief Minister (SACM) highlighted how effective supply chain management can help address these challenges by reducing inefficiencies and ensuring fair pricing. In this context, the SACM also presented a live dashboard platform which has been designed and developed in past 3 months to demonstrate data-driven monitoring of commodities, prices, and supply chains.
The dashboard serves as a centralized digital platform for real-time monitoring and analysis of commodity prices, supply chains, and market trends across Punjab. It integrates data from multiple sources to provide end-to-end visibility of essential commodities, from production to retail level. The dashboard consolidates data from production, markets, storage, transportation, and retail, enabling authorities to track commodity movement from farm to consumer. This visibility helps identify delays, leakages, and inefficiencies in the supply chain.
1. Supply & Demand Gap Identification
By mapping crop cycles, arrivals, and market demand, the dashboard highlights shortages or surpluses at district and provincial levels. This allows timely interventions such as redistribution, release of stocks, or import facilitation.
2. Improved Logistics and Distribution Planning
Data on transportation routes, storage locations, and market flows assists in identifying logistical bottlenecks. Authorities can optimize routes, improve stock positioning, and reduce post-harvest losses.
3. Transparency and Accountability
By digitizing and centralizing information, the dashboard promotes transparent monitoring, improves coordination among departments, and strengthens accountability across the supply chain.
4. Better Outcomes for Farmers and Consumers
Efficient supply chain management ensures fair farm-gate prices for producers and stable, affordable prices for consumers, directly contributing to inflation control and food security.
By leveraging real-time data and analytics, the dashboard facilitates proactive interventions, strengthens supply chain management, and contributes to inflation control and fair pricing for both consumers and farmers.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary, Food Safety & Consumer Protection Department (FS&CPD), Chairman, PAMRA, and Director General, PAMRA.

Secretary to the Government of Punjab Dr. Kiran Khurshid Food Safety and Consumer Protection Department (formerly known as Price Control & Commodities Management Department) is pleased to share that subsequent to the approval of Honorable Chief Minister, the name of Price Control & Commodities Management Department has been changed to Food Safety & Consumer Protection Department (FS&CPD).

The New logo illustrates the core functions of the department in center.
i) Wheat procurement.
ii) Regulation of flour mills and sugar mills.
iii) Transportation of wheat, consumer rights protection through consumer protection councils.
iv) Launch, construct, monitor, regulate and maintain the sahulat bazaars and supply of essential commodities to the general public on notified rates.

The 9 concentric stars in the circle show 9 attached departments/authorities which are aligned and distinct.

LAHORE: First-of-its-kind `Sahulat On-the-Go Bazaar` in Punjab has emerged as a major public attraction, offering quality essential items at official rates while providing dignified livelihood to the street vendors.

Launched on the directions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the initiative aims at ensuring affordable commodities for the citizens and a regulated, respectable business environment for the street vendors. More than 400 stalls have been allotted to the vendors through an open balloting process.

In the first phase in Lahore, Sahulat On-the-Go Bazaars have become functional at 10 locations , including Gulshan-i-Ravi, Shadman, Madar-i-Millat Road, Madina Market, Township, Sundar Road and Kotha Pind, Faisal Town. Additional bazaars are also made operational at Kharak Nala, Awan Town, Valencia and Shahdara.

The bazaars offer fruits, vegetables, chicken and grocery items at DC-notified rates. Facilities such as security, clean washrooms, proper sanitation and a drive-through shopping option have also been provided to facilitate citizens.

Officials said that by February, five more such bazaars will be made functional in Lahore while projects at Barki, Saddar, Nishtar Town, Raiwind Phase II, Faisal Town, Moon Market and Ferozewala are in their final stages of completion.

Vendors expressed satisfaction with the initiative, saying they have become owners of proper shops while earlier they were operating pushcarts.

`We are no longer roadside hawkers; we now have our own shops,` several vendors said,thanking the chief minister for introducing a dignified and organised system instead of removing street vendors.

About the project, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said it reflected Muhammad Nawaz Sharif`s vision of a clean and beautiful Lahore.

`True development is that which benefits the hardworking poor. Today, every vendor can proudly say that he owns a shop,` she said, adding that such projects would be expanded across Lahore and eventually throughout Punjab.She noted that vendors who had stood in the open for years had now been provided proper shelter and facilities.

The chief minister also appreciated the efforts of the Punjab Sahulat Bazaar Authority in executing the project.

The chairman of the Punjab Sahulat Bazaar Authority said the initiative would help reduce the need for subsidies traditionally provided during the Ramazan bazaars as affordable commodities would now be available throughout the year.
