THE TALK WE NEVER HAD The idea for this book came from my desire to write something about the 13 worse days of my life.
Thirteen is an unlucky number, so I thought that might tie in well. I thought it might be a way to turn something bad into something good. I thought if I could tap into the intense emotions involved with each bad day, it might allow me to produce some intense writing.
Oh, I tapped into it all right. This was the toughest book to write of any I've ever written. To tell the story right, I had to relive some very painful days. That certainly took its toll on me.
At one time, I thought I might not be able to finish it before it finished me. But I stuck with it, and you have before you the end result. It might seem strange, but it is one of my favorite books. I was able to evoke some strong emotions from myself and possibly from you, if you choose to read it. The book is a true story overlaid with a fictional facade.
Everything in the book really happened with the exception of my father coming back from the grave as a ghost. He helps me tell the story in the form of an imaginary conversation that takes place at his graveside. You are welcome to listen in now.
