Sixteen viral ballet videos from TikTok. An AI ballerina, an X-ray in pointe shoes, 96 fouettés in a row, a split in seven days.

I watched them all and told you honestly: real or fake.

The last one has millions of views, and it isn't ballet at all.

Which one fooled you?

New story 🩰

On 29 May 1913, the audience in Paris laughed, whistled and shouted at a new ballet, and by the next morning the newspapers were calling it a riot. Backstage, Nijinsky stood on a chair calling out the counts, because his dancers could no longer hear the orchestra.

How much of that famous riot really happened, and why do we still dance this ballet more than a hundred years later? I went to find out.

Thirty-two fouettés. The whole theatre counts every turn, and so do I.

Ten Black Swans, from Plisetskaya to Nuñez. I didn't rank them, you decide who is number one.

Stay for the bonus. That dancer is seven.

Who is your #1?

New story 🩰

At seventeen, Kschessinska sat at a dinner between the Emperor and the future Emperor. People said that's the only reason she became the prima of the Imperial ballet.

Was it true? I went to find out.

A white mug, a fake hussar, 32 fouettés in a row, and Lenin on her balcony.
