Nowadays we have many juhaal who think they are more knowledgeable than the Fuqahaa or the Muhaditheen. Allahul Musta’an
Sticking to the texts according to the understanding of the السلف الصالح is the correct way.
Who are the salaf?
They consist of : As - Sahaba Tabi’un Atba Tabiee’n
The last generation having giants such as Imam Ahmed رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ Yahya Bin Maee’n رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ
The Khalaf who are the latecomers are also influential
Such as Sheykh Al Islam Ibn Taymiyyah رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ Also Ibn Qudamah Al Maqdisi رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ who was the most grounded in fiqh. He was on par with Al Awzaee رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ.
Sticking to the ulema is necessary. The السلف الصالح transmitted the religion to us by way of hearing and obeying the reports. If we want to be like these pious men we should read their biographies and reflect on how they were with dawah and worshipping Allah ﷻ

Were All the contemporary salafi scholars against the madhab?
This is a common claim that we see from many of the youth who are hasty and make claims without having any found evidence
What we know is that the 3 major scholars of our recent times were
Ibn Uthaymeen رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ Albani رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ Ibn baz رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ
Yes Albani was a ghayr muqallid and he learnt lots of fiqh from the Hadeeth but to claim they all went against the usul of the madhabs is incorrect
One of the intermediate books in the Hanbali madhab which is Al Kafi had a explanation done by Ibn Uthaymeen رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ which showed his expertise in the madhab
Also Ibn Baz رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ was a hanbali pertaining to usul.
There are many ways to learn fiqh such as the way Albani رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ learned it and the way of the 4 madhaabs. People need to know that knowledge is not limited.
One of the greatest authorities of the Hanbali Madhab
Ibn Qudamah رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ
His full name was: Abu Muhammad Abdullah b. Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Qudāmah b. Miqdād b. Nasr al-Maqdisi al-Jammā’īli al-Damashqi as-Sālihi al-Hanbali. Ibn Qudāmah was given the titles of: Shaykhul Islaam and Muwaffaqud-Deen. He was born in Palestine (541h) and died in Damascus (620h). It is well known that his family was loaded with major scholars of the Deen, including his first teacher: his father Abul Abbās. May Allah have mercy on them all.
Ibn Taymiyyah رحمه الله famously said about Ibn Qudāmah:
ما دخل الشام بعد الأوزاعي أفقه من الشيخ الموفق
“There is no one who entered Shām, after al-Awzā’ee (157h), more knowledgable in Fiqh than the scholar al-Muwaffaq.”
