Two years ago, I resurrected my channel from when I was in high school. A decision that has had a positive impact on my life. I'm forever grateful knowing how I went from 129 Subs to now having 400 subs to go from 10k.

Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls, children of all ages, thank you.

We're almost there 🫔

GTA VI is already making moves to be Game of the Year… and we still haven't seen a SINGLE gameplay trailer yet. šŸ˜‚

I can't lie. This whole situation is starting to remind me of GTA The Definitive Edition. Remember when we barely saw any real gameplay before the game dropped?

Now, obviously, GTA VI is on a completely different level—but the fact that a game this massive can dominate the conversation, break records, and already be treated like the Game of the Year favorite without showing us actual gameplay is kind of crazy when you think about it.

So I have to ask:

Which game do YOU think will be Game of the Year?

Resident Evil 9
007 First Light

Important Announcement

After seeing Sony's latest decisions, I've decided to modernize the Retro Phantom channel.

There will no longer be physical videos.

Every upload is now a cloud-based thought.

If the servers go down... the video never existed.

Thank You

Retro Phantom

The other day someone asked me how I felt about GTA VI, and I said something that surprised a few people:

I think it will eventually change gaming forever—and not necessarily for the better.

Reports say GTA VI pre-orders have already generated incredible numbers, with estimates reaching over $1 billion. Whether every estimate holds up or not, one thing is clear: digital purchasing is becoming the dominant way people buy games.

To me, we're watching the slow death of physical game collecting and the rise of gaming as a service.

If you're like me, you've spent years building a collection. Walking into a store, picking up a new release, opening the case, reading the manual (back in the day), and placing it on your shelf made it feel like you truly owned something. It wasn't just a license—it was part of your collection.

Convenience changed everything.

As digital storefronts became faster and easier, more and more players chose downloads over discs. Companies noticed.

I believe one of the biggest turning points was the launch of the PS5. Sony released two versions of the console: one with a disc drive and one without. From that moment, the industry had a clear direction. Digital wasn't just an option anymore—it was becoming the priority.

When you take a step back, though, it's hard to blame only the companies.

Consumers voted with their wallets long before they voted with their voices.

Every digital purchase told publishers that convenience mattered more than ownership.

Now we're seeing the consequences.

Ironically, I also think this will strengthen retro gaming. Just as the PS3 community is still thriving today, there will always be a dedicated physical media community. If publishers continue moving away from discs, the supply of physical games will only become more limited, increasing demand for older generations of games and consoles.

And eventually, more people may start repeating the one sentence companies never want to hear:

"If buying isn't owning, then piracy isn't stealing."

Whether you agree with that statement or not, it's becoming a bigger part of the conversation as ownership continues to disappear.

What do you think?

Are you still buying physical games, or have you fully embraced digital?

You always remember your very first video game, no matter what. So I wonder what was your first video game? I'll start with mine, Pac-Man World 2, and yes I bought the remake as well.

So a quick update for everyone—
We just hit 9K subscribers as of today. Last year, my goal was 10K, so it feels amazing to see that slowly becoming a reality.

I also want to apologize for the delay on the last Last of Us video. I’ve been busy applying for jobs and going to interviews, so my time has been pretty limited. I usually try to stick to a ā€œ7 days to airā€ approach like South Park, but being a one-man team can get draining.

Because of that, I’ll be moving to a bi-weekly upload schedule. Some of these games take a full week just to really understand, and I want to make sure the content stays solid.
The good news—The Phantom isn’t going anywhere.

And seriously, thank you to everyone who’s donated to the channel. It means a lot. We’ve still got a full year of Street Fighter content coming, so there’s plenty ahead.
