Whipple's operation, also known as pancreaticoduodenectomy, is a complex surgical procedure primarily performed to treat pancreatic cancer, as well as certain benign conditions affecting the pancreas, bile duct, and duodenum. This operation involves removing the head of the pancreas, the duodenum, a portion of the common bile duct, and the gallbladder. The remaining structures are then reconstructed to restore digestive function.

In post-operative histopathology, the specimen obtained from Whipple's operation is crucial for accurate diagnosis and staging. Pathologists examine the resected tissue to identify the presence of cancer, assess tumor margins, and evaluate lymph node involvement. Detailed analysis helps determine the extent of disease and guides further treatment decisions.
