Some days, all I want is a simple meal — like the kind my mom used to make. Crispy anchovies with lime leaves, a small plate of pickled eggplant, and warm pumpkin soup with peanuts. Just a little of each, and somehow it feels like home.

It rained a little this afternoon. It reminded me of when I was a kid — on rainy days, my mom would often cook caramelized shrimp and pork.
I don’t know why, but that dish tasted extra special when the weather turned cool.
The fat from the pork would coat the shrimp, the fish sauce would sizzle and smell amazing, and the tiny bit of chili heat always hit just right.
Simple food, but at the table, no one really talked — maybe because we were too busy enjoying it.
Today I made it again. I filmed it too, like a way to keep the memory — for me, and maybe for you too.
If you grew up with meals like this, I think you’ll understand exactly what I mean.
