Marie Van Brittan Brown
Inventor - Home Security System
Patent # - 3,482,037

If you have a security system within your home, you should thank Mrs. Brown! Marie worked a typical 9-5 as a nurse. She spent many nights alone while her husband traveled for work. Living in a rough neighborhood in Queens, NY, she felt very unsafe with the high rates of crimes. The police were unresponsive and not very reliable. Therefore, Mrs. Brown took matters in her own hands.

Mrs. Brown, in 1966, invented a system which used a camera that would slide into and four peepholes in her front door. The camera was connected to a monitor in her home which allowed her to see anybody that came near her door. She added a microphone so that she could talk to the person on the other side, a switch to unlock the door, and a button that would call the police. Later that year, her and her husband applied for a patent on the security system. They were awarded a patent in 1969.

THANK YOU MRS. BROWN πŸ™πŸΎβœŠπŸΎ
