James from ‪@Project-Air‬ dropped into the Easy Composites studio last week to discuss working together on some upcoming projects. I won't say too much at this stage but it did give me an excuse to fire up the CNC hotwire again, and we will be bringing some carbon fibre expertise to an upcoming world record attempt!

Stay tuned to the ‪@Project-Air‬ and ‪@easycompositestv‬ channels to see how this plays out!

We’ve known Nigel Dean since our beginnings (manufacturing carbon fibre parts for kit and track cars) and so it’s been an absolute pleasure to follow his jaw-dropping Ultima RS build on his popular YouTube @V8Creative channel.

When Nigel asked us if we could help him out with a bespoke engine cover to crown the thunderous 6.2L V8 there was only one answer! Working from a CAD model of the LS3, and trying to compliment the Ultima’s lines, we modelled a brand-new engine cover in VR, worked out the finer details in CAD, machined an epoxy pattern, created a mould and finally produced the finished part in XC110 prepreg.

We think the end result does justice to Nigel’s unbelievable build but check out his episode dedicated to this and other carbon upgrades and let us know if you agree! https://youtu.be/y6WqD1F266A?si=O0JfI...

We've just published our 'Making Carbon Fibre Parts by Resin Infusion - Complete Start-up Guide'.
Although we’ve covered this subject before, this tutorial pulls together over 10 years of experience in guiding customers towards outstanding mechanical and cosmetic results using this incredible process.

Although resin infusion is capable of producing aerospace quality strength-to-weight ratio components, it requires much less specialist equipment than processes such as prepregs and is often considerably more cost effective, especially for larger components. The video includes every step of the process including materials and equipment required, compatible mould materials, release preparation, positioning the reinforcement and consumables, locating the resin feed and vacuum ports, vacuum bagging and infusing the resin.

It's been a little while since our last tutorial but we've been hard at work and have some great content coming soon. In a poll we ran late last year asking viewers what content they'd like to see more of, CAD for composites was the clear winner, so our next video, and at least one more this year, will focus on this subject. Watch this space : )

Above all else, at Easy Composites we try to inspire as many people as possible to become as passionate about composites as we are. That's why we make our videos, host training and sponsor schools and universities. It's also why we continue to develop and offer starter kits for many of the processes we cover in our videos, because there really is no substitute for hands-on experience. If you're stuck for gift idea, to give or receive this festive season, maybe it's time for something a bit different?

Large scale infusion alert! Not sure if this will be our next tutorial, or when the project will be finished but today we've been infusing a 6m (20') boat hull using flax fibre, balsa core and IB2 bio resin. If you feel inspired, all these materials are available on www.easycomposites.co.uk/
