Shakti Abhiyan is a grassroots movement committed to the fight for true gender equality in governance & power. We believe that real change begins when women have an equal seat at the table — in policy, in leadership, and in every decision.

At the heart of our work is a simple & powerful vision: equal rights, representation & ownership. We are building women-led communities rooted in solidarity, sisterhood, and collective strength — where women not only organize and agitate but also lead with purpose and power.

Mexico proved that women's representation is not a dream it is a policy choice.

Today, women hold 50% of seats in government because equality was written into law, enforced, and implemented.

Meanwhile, women make up only a fraction of decision-makers in many democracies, including India.

When women lead, societies benefit:
✔ Better healthcare and education outcomes
✔ Stronger action against gender-based violence
✔ More inclusive economic policies
✔ More representative democracy

The question is no longer "Can women lead?"

The question is:

How long will politics continue to function without equal representation?

A democracy cannot claim to represent everyone while half the population remains underrepresented.

The future of politics must be equal, inclusive, and led by women too.

A historic milestone for women's safety and access to justice.

Delhi has inaugurated its first fully women-run police station in Sabzi Mandi, where every position from Station House Officer (SHO) to constable and support staff is led by women officers.

The initiative goes beyond traditional policing by providing support for cases related to domestic violence, sexual harassment, stalking, cyber harassment, and dowry-related abuse. Survivors will also have access to counselling, legal assistance, and psychological support.

Creating safer spaces for women requires more than laws . It requires institutions where women feel heard, supported, and empowered to seek justice.

This is an important step toward building a safer, more inclusive, and more responsive system for women.

We often say women are “allowed” to study, work, lead, speak, and choose their own future.

But history tells a different story.

Every right women enjoy today was earned through the courage of those who challenged discrimination, defied social norms, and refused to give up. From Savitribai Phule and Dr. Rukhmabai to Rani Lakshmibai and countless others, these women didn't wait for permission they changed history.

This series is a reminder that equality was never gifted. It was fought for.

Which woman in history inspires you the most?

Leadership often begins with a conversation.

As part of Shakti Connect, one-to-one meetings were held with women who have contested ULB and RLB elections across Haridwar Rural, Ranipur, and Jwalapur Assembly constituencies.

These conversations help us understand their journeys, challenges, aspirations, and the support they need to continue their leadership journey.

Because women who step forward to contest elections are not just candidates they are changemakers shaping the future of their communities.

Menstrual health is not a privilege. It is a right.

At Government Girls' High School, Harapanahalli, Shakti Abhiyan organized an awareness session to ensure that young girls have access to knowledge, dignity, and the confidence they need to take charge of their health.

Led by Karnataka's "Pad Woman," Bharathi Gudlanur, the session focused on menstrual hygiene, women's health, and breaking the silence around periods. Free sanitary pads were distributed, and students were encouraged to prioritize their well-being without fear or stigma.

Because when girls are informed, healthy, and empowered, they are better equipped to shape their own futures.

Spain has taken a historic step by
becoming the first country in Europe to provide paid menstrual leave. It's more than a policy . It's anacknowledgement that women's health matters, and that menstruation should not be treated as a private burden women must silently endure.

For decades, women have been expected to "push through" severe cramps, fatigue, and menstrual disorders while carrying on as if nothing is wrong.

Recognizing menstrual health as a workplace right is not special treatment it's basic dignity.

If period pain can affect education, work, and daily life, shouldn't our policies reflect that reality?

India has made progress in many areas of women's health. Perhaps it's time we also started a serious conversation about menstrual leave, work place support, and reproductive health rights,

What do you think should India introduce a national menstrual leave policy?
