If you are going to have an intimate relationship with God, the first thing you need to do is deal with a certain kind of haste that is part of the fall locked in your soul.

When we call for a prayer meeting, have you noticed that there is a haste in your soul? You are always in a hurry. You need to murder that haste. You need to kill it because that haste is one of the strands of the fall of man.

Since man became a rebel, he no longer wants to stay in God's presence. He moves out of God's presence. So, there is that haste in your soul that you need to conquer. And you conquer it by learning patience and waiting in the presence of the Lord.

There are so many people in intensive care units now because they took off without any depth. And so, Jesus has to run clinics to rehabilitate so many people.

It doesn't matter what your work schedule looks like; it is compulsory for you to attend the school where God comes and speaks to you face to face. If you don't know God for yourself, how can you believe Him?

The second thing we need to do is learn how to speak to God.

For most of us, prayer is very formal. We see God as someone in the third heavens, sitting as a mighty governor among the nations.

But in this school, prayer is not that formal. Prayer is like talking to God. As you walk on the streets, as you go to the office, or as you take a car—and if you are lucky, you are not the one driving—keep talking to Him.

You see, your heart is designed in such a way that you can speak without vocal expression. Your heart has a voice, and you can mobilise your heart to begin to communicate with God and speak to Him.

You will discover this after a while. Just keep doing it every day. Every day, keep talking to Him. The time will come when you begin to speak to Him and He will answer you.

He doesn't speak much, but He answers much. And you will need to develop a culture of continually speaking to Him so that you can come to that point where He begins to speak to you Himself.

In Africa, we often hear people say, “Look at the Chinese. They are making phones and building great companies, yet they are not praying like us. Look at us—we pray so much, but we are not as productive.”

But stop there for a moment.

I know many of you enjoy Chinese restaurants, but when you walk into one, what is one of the first things you may see? An image of Buddha.

And they are not ashamed to identify with their spiritual beliefs.

In fact, the Chinese and Indians are among some of the most spiritually conscious people you will find. An Indian can bring his god into his office, his business, and even a restaurant. They openly identify with what they believe.

But we, as Christians, are sometimes afraid or ashamed to openly identify with Jesus Christ.

And let me leave you with this: eat all the meat you want in the restaurant, but understand that there is a spiritual foundation behind the people and systems that have produced what you admire.

When you decide to become part of a people committed to spiritual growth, one of the first things you may be exposed to is intense prayer—even hours of prayer.

Why?

Because your flesh and fallen nature will naturally resist spiritual discipline.

If you are going to be governed by your spirit and walk in dominion, you must learn to go beyond the control of the flesh. You do this by exercising your spirit consistently until the flesh begins to lose its dominance over you.

Prayer is not merely about asking God for things. It is also a way of disciplining the flesh, strengthening the spirit, and positioning yourself to live according to God's will.

Have you ever heard the statement, “You cannot argue with proofs”? You’ve heard it before, right?

Have you read about Moses, when God told him to speak to the rock, but he struck the rock instead? Was there water? Yes, there was water. There was proof.

But Moses was in disobedience.

So I came to tell you that you can argue with proof. You can generate proof through disobedience.

If Jesus says you should not lay hands, and you lay hands anyway, things will happen. There will be proof. The only problem with that arrangement is that you will be disqualified.

The hands you laid and the prayers you made were contrary to instruction, yet you made those prayers in the name of Jesus. He will respond to His name, but the man praying can still be disqualified.

We have left that realm where we measure everything by proof.

Because the greatest miracles that will be done will be done when the Antichrist comes. He will be a chieftain of signs and wonders. Economic situations, wars, and security situations in the world that have lasted for generations—he will show up and bring peace to the Middle East.

If you are looking for proof, some of the greatest proofs you will see will be in Israel.

But the question is not only, “Can it be done?” We must also ask, “Should it be done?”

And we are ready for it.

The fact that you have the ability to do something does not automatically conscript you into engaging it.

In fact, as you grow in the ladder, there may come a time when God releases a serious anointing upon your life and says, “Don’t pray for the sick. Don’t lay hands.”

What He wants to see is whether you can remain in order while carrying power.

Because most of us are likely to ask, “If God didn’t want us to use it, why did He give us this power?”

If you begin to ask that kind of question, you are becoming guilty of wanting to exercise yourself apart from God.

And when you exercise yourself apart from God, He may still back up the power—but that does not mean He approves of the disobedience.

You say you saw Jesus, and somebody asks, “What was He wearing?” He doesn’t have to appear to you in a particular form for you to encounter Him. He may not even appear to you like that many times in your lifetime, if at all, because that is spectacular. You cannot make the spectacular a normal expectation; it is not within our jurisdiction.

For instance, I cannot just say, “I want to translocate,” and disappear from here. I can’t make that happen. That is spectacular. God will do it if He wants to. That is His business. I don’t even pray for it. If He thinks I need it, He will make it available.

But I am not expecting that as the normal evidence of my spiritual life. The fact that you became born again does not mean you have become God. There are things that belong to God.

I saw somebody doing something and he said he was trying to translocate. I felt he needed deliverance; he needed help badly. Hallelujah!

But the supernatural is a promise, and Jesus gave us supernatural expectations. These are things that should be part of the life of a spiritually healthy believer.

I said, if you are not spiritually sick, casting out devils should be a natural thing for you. It should be something that happens in your Christian walk.

And just in case these things are not happening in your life, you need to admit yourself into the intensive care unit of the grace of God.

The supernatural should be a natural expectation for spiritually healthy believers.

One of the things the devil does is make you feel that things are taking too long, even when God has placed a blessing on your life. There is a season when that blessing will begin to speak, but the devil wants you to become discouraged and give up before that time comes.

The moment you stop putting wood on the altar, you stop sustaining the very things God has called you to do. When you abandon the practices and commitments that brought you to where you are, you begin to move in the wrong direction.

Many people have abandoned their commitments because they felt they had laboured for too long without seeing results. But before you give up, ask yourself: Did God lead me into this assignment? Am I doing the work the way He instructed me?

I have told you the formula for prosperity: God’s man, in God’s place, doing God’s work, in God’s way, and at God’s time, will not lack God’s support.

So, when I feel as though I am labouring without seeing results, I go back to check. Did I call myself, or did God call me? If He called me, is this the work He asked me to do? I check again. Am I doing it the way He instructed me? If the answers are yes, then I know that, in God’s time, I will see His support.

Your walk with God is a walk of faith. You must keep obeying Him and remain faithful to His instructions, even when the results are not yet visible. Do not allow the delay to make you abandon what God has called you to do. Remain faithful, keep building, and trust Him to provide His support in His appointed time.

My suggestion is that you set a specific time for prayer and remain consistent with it. You can pray at other times, but if you want to build a strong prayer life and make spiritual progress, you must learn to pray consistently and follow a structured routine.

When you study the book of Acts, you will discover that the apostles had dedicated times for prayer. The Bible refers to it as the hour of prayer.

If you study the Scriptures closely, you will notice that some angelic encounters happened around the hour of prayer. This shows us the importance of having a dedicated time to fellowship with God. Once you establish that structure, do everything within your power to maintain it. Don't allow anything to break that pattern.

There are spiritual encounters, revelations, and divine instructions that God can bring into your life during those sacred moments of fellowship. Many of the things that will strengthen you and move you forward spiritually can come through that dedicated time with Him.

Just as you expect God to be faithful, you must also learn to be faithful and consistent in your fellowship with Him. God knew that there was a specific time when He would come to fellowship with Adam. When Adam was no longer in his proper place, God knew something had changed.

If you truly want to grow and advance in your walk with God, you must develop a disciplined approach to spiritual things. Consistency in prayer is not optional for the believer who desires spiritual progress; it is a discipline you must cultivate.

It can take you three or four years to begin to operate in the anointing and demonstrate spiritual power. If you are fasting and praying consistently, most of you will experience power. I know what you do. I know how you cast out devils. I've heard all your testimonies and stories. But you see, that is not necessarily a sign that you are mature.

All of us can move in power. I know. I know you see visions. I don't doubt that. Those are some of the natural things that happen when you begin to explore the spirit realm. Visions will come. You can conduct deliverance. People can be healed when you minister. All of these things can happen.

But what truly shows that you are mature is the evidence of Christ in your character. We must see a life upon which Christ has so lavishly expanded His territory. Such a man becomes flawless in character.

For instance, this is an opportunity for him to commit immorality, but he will not exploit it. He doesn't want to gain anything from his interaction with his sister. The sister is vulnerable. She trusts him. She may even be deeply attracted to him, and he is aware of it. But he will not exploit her.

Why? Because the nature of Christ in him has grown to the point where he has become selfless. He is not a danger to anybody—whether a married woman, a widow, or a single lady. He is not a danger to them because the empire of Christ has grown in him to the point where his character has been transformed.

Today, we have boys with microphones—people who have not been weaned from milk, people who have not been tried or tested with money, people who can fall because of the sight of dollars. Yet they are already championing the microphone and trying to change Christianity into a doctrine of wanting faith.

We have not so learned Christ.
