I made it inspired by the musicians that made up “SITRSM” & its tour. I wanted to continue building songs in this realm & it became a sister album that wandered off to its own world.
also announcing two very special Materia listening events. we’ll be gathering in LA on August 20 at In Sheep's Clothing for a full album playback, Q&A with longtime friend and KCRW Music Director Alejandro Cohen and signing presented by KCRW: www.eventbrite.com/e/julia-holter-materia-album-pl… (Access to the LA event is by a pay-what-you-can donation in support of The Immigrant Defenders Law Center, providing free legal aid to community members impacted by our unjust immigration system)
“My Lost One” is a witchy folktale inspired by children’s books with creepy rhymes and nonsense syllables, trees growing through living rooms, and animals doing things in clothes. I imagine wildlife moving in, a superimposition of the outdoors and the indoors, a squirrel cooking food on my stove. What are we conjuring, and what are we truly longing for?
my new album “Materia”, a companion to “Something in the Room She Moves”, is out Aug 21 @dominorecordco, available now for pre-order. my song “Fantasy” is out now, and luckily Dicky Bahto has made a video 🐚
