Everything has a price but what's the price of truth? So many of you comment under our videos saying "This is what independent journalism looks like."

You're right, but independent journalism isn't free. The cost of independent journalism is FIRs, legal notices, court appearances, pressure, threats, sleepless nights... and so much more.

Assalam-o-Alaikum everyone, Farhan here. It’s been a while since we last connected! How is everyone doing?

I want to directly address a few questions many of you have been asking: Why aren't we covering Kashmir? What happened to the Kiani documentary? Why was the Balochistan documentary taken down?

As I’ve said repeatedly in our podcasts and townhalls: We will always speak the truth. If we cannot speak the truth, we will choose silence over becoming a mouthpiece for the powerful. If the day comes when we are forced to put out things we don't believe, we will shut down Raftar rather than betray your trust.

Journalism globally and in Pakistan specially is facing unprecedented pressure. As authoritarianism/fascism grows, the space for honest, independent work shrinks. Many major figures in mainstream and digital media have bent the knee. That’s their decision. Meanwhile, overseas voices that once spoke freely are also facing control.

We operate right here from Pakistan, and you know what that means for our boundaries. We are pushing through and doing everything possible within these constraints.
