The lighting sucks but Indie is looking so much better. Gonna start some hill work on the lunge line today or tomorrow to start building some topline at a walk
As for the video on getting your horses head down while under saddle : I want to wait until I can video a few things with Lacie so I can show exactly what I did and the steps to get thier head set better with a few exercises. I have already started putting the video together but I need more examples to show instead of just typing it out and it being confusing

Letting them graze in the yard while I fix an old fence. It's taken forever but I made the old fence bigger so that I can let Indie graze in it while I am at school. You may recognize it and the size is more than doubled now. Spent forever collecting nails again because the rain unburied some over the last five months the pen hasn't been used. Seriously have no idea what on earth the previous owners of this house were doing burning straight metal, nails, and electrical wires in multiple mini burn piles but to each their own I guess 😭😭 not to mention the endless piles of buried bricks and gunshot shells 💔

I have had a lot of people asking how I got Lacie to relax and get her head down. For her specifically it was more than just training that affected her but I will demonstrate how I trained her to relax in a video tomorrow. I never used draw reins or any aids. I never used draw reins spurs or harsh bits. The last picture is the exact bit I use. Every horse is different obviously but the discussion on bits is a whole different can of worms. Anyways, I keep having people asking so I will make a video where I will demonstrate the very first steps and some things I did on the ground and in the saddle to help her out :)

Well, the weather loves me. Couldn't even start on anything I wanted to after feeding the horses because now it's raining. UGH. I didn't even get time to do anything other than feed them and scoop poop before I was getting rained on 💔
This is also how Indie is doing. Her winter coat is pretty much gone now. All she needs now is some more fat and some topline. I might start doing some light lunging at a walk on some hills when the ground hardens up. But I won't be doing any trot work or putting a saddle on until she is in tip top shape.
And as for Lacie, I didn't even get the chance to try and get measurements on her so I can look for a western pleasure saddle 💔

Apparently I have to break down how I ride by the minute.
When I say me and Lacie do about 30 minutes total of trot work that does not mean we trotted for 30 minutes straight. The words TOTAL and ACCUMULATIVE mean that's how much we spent trotting that was BROKEN UP INTO SHORT SESSIONS OF FIVE MINUTES OR LESS through AN HOUR AND A HALF. We spend about 30 minutes warming up : involves some trotting towards the end of our warm up. We spend time working and inbetween sessions of trotting (again, five minutes or less) WE WALK. And then we spend about 30 minutes cooling down which is only walking. And sometimes we spend even longer just walking around during warming up and cooling down because I genuinely enjoy just walking around our trails. When I say we rode for ABOUT an hour and a half that doesn't mean it's to the dot. We probably rode longer, we probably rode less; I couldn't tell you.
I would never make her trot for 30 minutes straight. Don't even know how that was a conclusion people came to. WTH.
And when we ride and I plan to do lope work it ads an hour because I spend a butt load of time walking so she can warm up her muscles and catch her breath between sessions of loping and extra trotting. I'd say in total we only ever lope for an ACCUMULATIVE 20 minutes or less with butt tons of walking to cool down and catch her breath.
No matter how long my rides are I spend about %60 - 80% of the time walking. Jesus Christ man.
