i dont know if non-equestrians know that the rider is the one controlling the horse such as:telling it to walk,trot,canter and gallop, and jumping is not easy you have to have such good training to make sure your doing it correctly so you and/or the horse doesnt get hurt. the horse can feel you, if your nervous the horse freaks out, if your scared the horse cant focus, if your super excited the horse over does itself. and shows aren't the best thing to start off with, if you dont know how to make your heels then you get points taken off if you cant hold the reins right you get points taken off, and if you fall or knock down a jump then your disqualified. i hope this makes everyone understad that horse back riding is not easy.
