Hi there! Edmund Sears through this song, reminds us of the comforting and joyful news the angels told the shepherds " Peace on the earth". Sears wrote this song in the year 1849 when a lot of things happened in the world around him such as the war between the U.S and Mexico and revolution in Europe. All Sears could see was chaos, hatred and fear. He realized that the world filled with anger and hatred will not be able to hear God's voice. But soon, he was reminded of that quiet and peaceful night when Christ was born, how the shepherds saw the angels and heard them singing and he wrote the song " It came upon the midnight clear". This Christmas, in the midst of all celebration, fun, food and what not, let us all ask God to fill our hearts with His peace, the peace that passes all understanding and as He has taught us, let us be peacemakers, spreading peace to those around us.
Hi everyone! Here is a beautiful reminder from Isaac Watts on what Christmas should really be about, that the world should receive Jesus as King. Interestingly, Watts was inspired to write this song by the 2nd coming of Jesus and not the Christmas account. These words flow from Psalm 98 where David ends the Psalm with the words "for he comes to judge the earth.
He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples with equity".
