When Someone Says “I Know What I Bring to the Table,” Here Is What to Actually Look For

When someone says, “I know what I bring to the table,” most people list things like being successful, independent, driven, or a business owner. Those are great life skills. They matter. But they do not actually tell you how someone will show up in a relationship.

If you are trying to understand whether someone is healthy for partnership, you have to listen for different things.

Success does not tell you how someone handles conflict.
Independence does not tell you how someone handles closeness.
Drive does not tell you how someone handles emotional stress.

Those traits explain how someone functions in the world. They do not explain how someone connects with another human being.

What actually helps you understand how someone will be in a relationship are their emotional skills.

Look for whether they can talk about hard things without shutting down.
Look for whether they can sit in discomfort without running or distracting themselves.
Look for whether they can be honest without becoming defensive.
Look for whether they can listen without needing to control the outcome.

These are the traits that tell you if connection will feel safe.

Also pay attention to whether someone speaks with depth or just sounds polished. If someone says they have depth, you should hear it in the conversations. If someone says they are emotionally aware, you should feel it in their presence. If someone says they value growth, you should see a willingness to sit in uncomfortable truth instead of avoiding it. Depth is not something people announce. It is something you experience with them over time.

A healthy relationship is not built on image, status, or independence alone. It is built on stability, emotional intelligence, availability, safety, honest communication, growth, healthy boundaries, and maturity. These are the qualities that actually allow two people to relax, trust, and grow together.

So when someone tells you what they bring to the table, listen carefully. Not for their résumé. Listen for their emotional skill set. Listen for how they show up when things are uncomfortable. That is what will tell you whether the table they are offering is one you can actually build a relationship at.

Sending love, light & healing

How to Find Your Identity and Purpose

A lot of you are asking how to find your identity and your purpose.
Here is the truth. You do not find it by looking outside yourself. You find it by noticing what is already trying to rise inside you.

Your identity is not a role. It is not mom. It is not partner. It is not your job. Those are things you perform. They are not who you are.

So here is where you start.

First, notice what is ending in your life. Identity shifts usually happen when an old version of you is dissolving. Do not fight it. Pay attention to it.

Second, ask yourself what qualities you have always felt but never expressed. Your identity lives in the traits you keep hiding. Your purpose lives in the gifts you keep postponing.

Third, look at what drains you and what energizes you. Anything that drains you is not part of your identity. Anything that energizes you points toward your purpose.

Fourth, allow yourself to imagine who you would be if no one needed anything from you. That version of you is the closest to your true identity.

Last, take one small action that matches that identity. Purpose is not discovered. Purpose is lived into.

You are not lost. You are becoming. Your new identity is already calling you. You just have to say yes.

You will see this again because you’ll be able to find it in a book that I’m writing thats coming out in 2026 “Permission to Evolve.”

Sending love, light & healing

I am so excited to share this with you. I have a new book coming out called Whispers of the Moon, and it brings together two things that have shaped my own healing journey for years. I have always loved astrology. It is a blueprint. It shows who you are at your core before any healing or conditioning takes place. It does not predict your life. It reveals the emotional foundation you were born with.

This book focuses on your Moon sign, which holds your emotional memory, your instinct, your reactions, and the inner child patterns that follow you into adulthood. In Whispers of the Moon, I take you through a healing journey for every Moon sign. You will see the emotional blueprint, the inner child story, the shadow behaviors, the nervous system response, and the higher expression that becomes available when healing takes place.

This is not a typical astrology book. This is emotional healing through the Moon. It is practical, grounded, psychological, and deeply reflective. It shows you why you are the way you are and how to work with your emotional wiring consciously instead of repeating old cycles.

I cannot wait for you to experience this. This book feels like the missing link between astrology and real transformation. 🌕✨

What Happens in the Brain When Someone is Truly Channeling
By Shawna M Romkey. Nov 2025.

Channeling is often viewed as a mystical or intuitive experience, yet growing research suggests that the brain shifts into a specialized neurological state during deep trance and spiritual transmission. Studies on advanced meditators, trance mediums, and individuals in intense flow states reveal patterns that help explain what may be happening in the brain during true channeling.

From my own experience as a channeler there is a distinct shift that happens when I start channeling. One of the first signs that I am entering a deeper trance is a change in my speech. My words begin to slow down and my voice can sound slightly softened or blurred. My mouth and jaw relax, my breathing deepens, and the speech becomes smoother and more unhurried.

When the trance deepens the closest comparison I can offer is an analogy. It feels similar to sitting on a plane and looking out the window. I am fully aware of my surroundings, yet I am not directing the process. The information flows through me while I remain conscious and observant. I am fully immersed in the experience. It feels effortless and natural, as if I am both present and elsewhere at the same time.

When I am channeling Light language I am not speaking a literal spoken language. It is a frequency of vibration that expresses itself through sound because my physical body cannot hold these higher frequencies for long periods of time. People often feel this as a healing energy. I call in specific divine beings and work with their unique energetic signatures. I also use Light language with magickal work, which makes my practice unique.

Many other channelers report similar experiences. Some describe feeling as if they are sitting behind themselves, watching their body speak. Others feel a rush of energy followed by intense clarity. Some see symbols or faces, or hear a distinct internal voice with its own personality and tone. These patterns are reported across different backgrounds and traditions.

Research supports many of these reports. Neuroimaging studies on trance mediums show reduced activity in the default mode network, the system responsible for self talk and personal narrative. When this network quiets the individual experiences less internal dialogue and a reduced need to control the process. This creates the sensation that information is arriving rather than being constructed.

During deep channeling the right hemisphere becomes more active. This part of the brain processes present moment awareness, intuition, emotional resonance, and sensory information. Increased right hemisphere engagement explains reports of time distortion, vivid internal imagery, and a feeling of expansion.

Another key feature is increased communication between both hemispheres. Studies on deep meditation show greater activation in the corpus callosum, the bridge that connects the two sides of the brain. This integration allows emotional meaning, sensory perception, intuitive insight, and language production to work together. Many channelers speak fluidly while feeling that the words are forming themselves. I have experienced this personally.

When someone is truly channeling the brain appears to move from generating information to integrating and transmitting it. The brain activates pathways that are normally under used and links them into a coordinated network. This creates a state that feels clear, expansive, and effortless. Channeling may represent an advanced form of neural integration that blends intuition, sensory processing, emotional intelligence, and language into a unified process.

Ego Death and the Self Beyond Survival

I have experienced ego death many times, in multiple layers. Each one has taken me deeper into understanding who I am beneath the roles, the image, and the survival identity I once lived through.

Psychologically, the ego is not bad. It is the structure that helps us form a sense of self and navigate reality. It protects us by giving us boundaries and control. Yet it becomes fragile when everything it identifies with begins to fall apart. The ego’s job is to preserve stability, but life, especially a spiritual path, will eventually confront it with change that cannot be managed or fixed. That confrontation feels like death, but it is actually transformation.

My first conscious ego death began when I had cancer. Everything that gave me identity and safety was stripped away. My partner left. My hair fell out. My reflection no longer matched who I remembered myself to be. I felt exposed, as if I were standing beneath a spotlight while the rest of the world kept moving. I could feel people looking at me with sympathy or discomfort. Time slowed, and I realized I was not part of the same world anymore.

In psychological terms, this was ego dissolution, when the self-image collapses because it can no longer hold the truth of what life has become. The mind interprets it as loss, yet it is the beginning of awakening. The old self dies so a more integrated and conscious self can emerge.

Spiritually, ego death is rebirth. It is the soul stepping forward where the ego once ruled. It reveals that we were never the appearance, the relationships, or the control we tried to maintain. We are the awareness witnessing all of it. Ego death strips away illusions until what remains is essence, the unchangeable part of us that exists beyond circumstance.

Each time I have gone through loss, heartbreak, or another major shift, I have faced another layer of ego death. It does not happen once; it happens again and again, refining the self each time. The ego learns to serve rather than lead. It becomes the bridge between the human experience and the soul’s truth.

Over time, as these layers continued to dissolve, I noticed that my perception of loss began to change. What most people would interpret as disappointment, I began to recognize as protection or redirection.

Psychologically, this is known as cognitive reframing, the ability to reinterpret an experience in a way that supports emotional growth and stability. Instead of attaching pain or failure to an ending, the mind recognizes that something is shifting to make space for what aligns better.

Spiritually, this understanding is the result of deep integration. After experiencing multiple ego deaths, you begin to see that nothing is ever truly taken from you. Life rearranges itself to match the vibration of who you have become. When someone leaves, it is not a punishment. It is divine movement. What departs is what no longer resonates, and what remains is truth.

From a psychological view, this is healthy integration. The ego no longer dominates but adapts, finding balance in change. From a spiritual view, it is awakening, the realization that every ending is an opening for a more authentic beginning.

Cancer was the first doorway, but it was not the last. Every layer of ego death since then has revealed deeper peace, deeper authenticity, and a quieter strength that cannot be shaken by how others see me or by what I lose.

Ego death is not an ending. It is an unveiling. It asks, Who are you when everything you built for safety is gone? What remains when all that is false has fallen away?
That is where truth begins.

Sending love and light,
Shawna ✨✨✨✨✨
