Follow-up post to the one I made a couple days ago. The thing that I wanted to avoid when it came to the games I play was the toxic gaming environment, much like the one I faced every season in Master Duel. But it has recently come to my attention that I can just stop Master Duel ranked climbing but still do duel rooms. That way, I can still post Yugioh content and have fun at the same time. So rather than quitting Master Duel entirely, I'm just going to have my recent limitations apply only to ladder. I'll come back and stream ranked again when Konami prints a real banlist and stops with the fake algorithm, but until then I'll stream duel rooms with anyone who wants to show up and duel. Everything will be allowed except for lingering handtraps (because frankly those should never have been a gimmick). Instead of being miserable every time I have to go live, how about we create an environment where everybody is confirmed to have a good time? My discord server also does our own tournaments every once in a while hosted by Go2It, and those can vary from a custom banlist, to no UR, or just the original ranked banlist. The possibilities are endless and the banlist is always up to the community's majority. And if people are interested, I can still record the tournaments or the duel rooms and post them unedited here in place of the ranked climbs. My editor VFYugioh can also post my best replays from the duel rooms as compilations so there can still be more duels coming out that are interesting to watch. I would love if we can still get as many people as possible to show up for the duel rooms and tournaments because the more people present, the more entertaining it will be. Never thought it would happen but this is the season that broke me. Konami has doubled down on their "no rogue decks" rule by creating a deck designed to snuff out the remaining rogue decks left in the game until you're either playing Ryzeal or Maliss. I've said time and time again that Endymions is a timeless deck because Konami keeps printing decks that don't hit backrow but only monsters, but now we have a deck that is practically built to wipe Endymion off the face of the game. "Endymions don't care about negates. They do care about pops. So quick effect removal are what Endymions struggle against the most." - Shadow Spector 2022. Now the only two decks you see in ranked are all about removal.
In my streams, you'll see that 90% of my coin tosses are losses which shouldn't happen unless Konami is still trying to sell the newer decks. But even when I get to go first, it doesn't matter because Maxx C effects are guaranteed each and every time. There were only just a handful a times where it didn't happen but my opponent had Droll or double Super Poly instead. Going first has been just as unplayable as going second and Konami doesn't care. And even though the last two seasons have been record-low players for Master Duel, Konami decides to unlimit Block Dragon and Brilliant Fusion instead of actually addressing the game to make it remotely tolerable. And the worst part is that I would even still play with all this toxicity legal if the shuffler was actually legitimate. Even with 5 Maxx C's (I rarely saw Perelia and Meowls). the card should not be guaranteed to every player who goes second against me. And Ryzeal and Maliss shouldn't be opening EXT and Dormouse half the times that they actually do. Every match against them was either normal summon Dormouse or activate the field spell, which really shouldn't happen even if they're at three.
I initially took the approach of auto scooping against those two decks when I saw them (because Maliss takes forever and Ryzeal is an auto loss all the time) but these last two streams I did, I actually made it a mission not to scoop during the opponent's turn if I went second at all. If I lost the coin toss and I saw a super long combo incoming, even if I got a horrible hand, I would wait it out. I've said before that sometimes I even surprise myself with some boards I could overcome, and I felt that I wasn't M1 yet because I stopped believing in my deck's ability to go second. But even when I waited through every single endboard and tried to play through it until losing was inevitable, the game still punished me by making lose almost every coin toss or guaranteeing Maxx C in my opponent's hand until it deranked me all the way from M2 back to M5.
I spent 18 hours straight streaming, trying to get this all done in time but Master Duel doesn't want any decks that aren't Maliss or Ryzeal to succeed. I was awake for 29 hours that "day." I can't keep putting myself through this torture for a game I don't find fun anymore. I say that the pack that introduced Runic and Labrynth was the moment when the game stopped being a great past time and started becoming a chore. And the pack that introduced Tenpai exposed the fact that it doesn't matter how well you play if the game just decides who wins from what they put in the opening hands (like the guaranteed Droplet and Paidra for Tenpai). It just feels like an endless cycle of barely managing to get your 5 wins to rank up only for the game to make you lose the next 3 coin tosses, give you a brick each time, and demote you back to where you were before. I just can't put myself through this anymore.
Having said all this, I absolutely love the community we've built over these last two years. I may be done streaming Master Duel but I don't want to be done streaming to all of you guys. Even when I streamed Witchcrafters and Blue-Eyes in the festivals, we still had a high turn out of viewers and even for the 90 minutes of stream that I just talked about my deck in the deck editor still had 45 viewers. And this is just Twitch viewers, not even counting all of you who watch on YouTube, some even rewatching streams of several hours long. I seriously love all of you for sticking around. It tells me that perhaps people aren't just interested in the Endymion deck but are interested in watching me play the game and my commentary or just my vibe as a person. I don't want to just cut off what we've built here together because Konami has run their game in to the ground. I would love to start streaming some games that are actually fun and that you all want to see. I have a few games in mind that I have already finished that I can play again if you are actually interested in seeing how I act when I actually enjoy myself. But I am also totally down to stream games that you all recommend to me. This channel won't just live and die by Master Duel and I'm all good for rebranding into things you're interested in.
Finally, I say in my final vod (currently scheduled to be uploaded on September 15th) that I am done with Master Duel and I won't be streaming again. That is true but only indefinitely. My discord says I'll be back when the new Endymion support hits the game (which it hasn't even been announced yet) but the reason I am taking a step back has nothing to do with the powercreep of Endymions (it has been powercrept ever since Snake-Eyes was released). As said above, it's with the algorithm being fake, Master Duel gatekeeping wins unless you're playing meta, and Konami's total inability to create a real banlist. They're gambling every month that their game won't die before they actually hit the meta. But TCG Konami has proven that it is possible to release a banlist that hits every deck at once like they did in TOSS format (R.I.P. Electrumite) so if Konami finally decides to get their act together, I'll come back and get to the highest rank just like before. Maybe newer support for Endymions will tempt me to come back earlier but like I said to the people suggesting Astrograph for this meta: that will not stop Maxx C from being in my opponents' hands.
I will still have the remaining vods leading up to my breaking point scheduled on every Friday and Monday and I'll still be active in the Discord if you want to get a hold of me discord.gg/CypKKDeggy. And I have probably over two dozens duels saved from Season 44 so my editor VFYugioh and I will still try to put together a few final videos with all the best duels before the content finally stops.
