US HOA Data: Around 21.6 million of the nation’s 86.6 million owned households in the United States paid either a condo or homeowners association (HOA) fee in 2024, according to the 2024 American Community Survey (ACS) 1-year estimates released on Sept 11, 2025

The ACS has long asked about condo fees. But the 2024 ACS 1-year estimates include information on condo and homeowners who paid HOA fees, too. The amount of condo and HOA fees differed widely between and within states. In 2024, about 5.6 million or 26% of homes paid less than $50 a month and about 3 million homes paid more than $500 a month.
