There's a misconception that keeps you stuck because it has you believing if you can't do it ALL, there's no point in doing anything.

It's the ALL-or-NOTHING thinking trap (hence why it keeps you stuck).

I was speaking to a woman who believed that a workout only counted if she exercised for a full hour and gave 100% effort each time. Anything less wasn't worth starting.

So on the days she couldn't give 100%, she gave 0%.

So we worked on how she was thinking about her time.

Instead of "I can't work out for an hour." I encouraged her to ask, "what can I do with the time I have now?"

A 10-minute stretch?
A 15-minute kettlebell routine?
Whatever was available.

She hasn't missed a week of exercising since!

That's the power of "All-or-SOMETHING" thinking.

And it applies to all your goals...

Whether it's redecorating your home.
Or completing your outstanding charts.
It even applies to restructuring your finances.

Because something is always better than nothing.

And every step takes you closer to the finish line.

Take things 10 minutes at a time
One room at a time.
One chart at a time...

It may feel small, but eventually, you will complete something you're excited about and proud of.

All because you chose to do SOMETHING over NOTHING.

Here's a lesson I learned the hard way…

You have a vision for your life that doesn't fit any path you've seen someone else take.

Maybe it's a business you want to start.
Or the career pivot you've been considering. Maybe it's how you're raising your kids.

And because you can't find anyone who has done it EXACTLY the way you're imagining it… you wait. And wait. And wait.

I did the same thing for EIGHT months (ouch!))

I wanted to build a psychotherapy practice as a medical doctor.

Culturally-sensitive, faith-informed yet accessible to those who needed it most.

So I searched and searched for a roadmap (aka "permission"), but I couldn't find a single person who had done it exactly the way I had in mind.

Eight months is a long time to wait for permission that was never coming from anyone but myself.

Every month I hesitated was another month those I serve went without the care they needed!!!

Eventually, the call to start got too loud to ignore.

So… I wrote a simple checklist.

Website ✅

Logo ✅

Booking and billing system ✅

Assistant ✅

Announcement to the world that KAMY Counselling Services was open for business! 🎉

It wasn't a perfect plan, but I executed one checkbox at a time and in no particular order.

And when things came up that I hadn't thought of, I filled the gaps as I went.

I didn't find the roadmap. So I made one!

The lesson... waiting for "perfect" is costly, and the roadmap reveals itself as you move.

Sometimes you just need to start the list.

Then take things one step at a time.
