Stem separation isn’t just for DJs.
In Live 12.3, you can split any audio into vocals, drums, bass, and more, right inside Ableton.

This means you can remix, sample, and rework old tracks in completely new ways. Want just the vocal? Take it. Need the drums? Grab them. Then process, chop, and rebuild your own sound.

It’s one of the most exciting tools in Live 12.3 and it’s way simpler than people make it seem.

Check out my recent Shorts for walkthroughs of the new features 12.3 ❤️

Ableton just dropped Live 12.3 Beta, and it’s a handful of useful tools you can put into your workflow right away.

From stem separation to updated Auto Pan, Splice in the Browser, and A/B parameter testing, these aren’t “nice to haves,” they’re actually practical updates that make producing smoother.

Here’s a quick breakdown so you don’t get lost in the noise.

Frequencies don’t need to be confusing. Tutorial bros make them sound like rocket science, but really they’re just low, mid, and high “spaces” where sounds live.

EQ (Equalizer) is the tool we use to balance those spaces, turning some frequencies up, turning others down, and clearing out the muddiness when too many sounds fight for the same spot.

This is the simplest way to think about EQ so you can start using it in your mixes with confidence.

Synth gurus love to make envelopes sound like rocket science. But an envelope is just a way of shaping how a sound starts, holds, and ends.

Attack, Decay, Sustain, Release (ADSR) are four simple steps that give your sounds character. Fast or slow, short or long…. these controls decide if your synth hits like a snare, fades like a pad, or lingers like reverb in a big hall.

This is the easiest way to understand envelopes, without the jargon. Save this for your next sound design session.

Synths don’t need to be scary. People make sound design look like rocket science, but it’s really just shaping oscillators step by step.

In this carousel I show you how to design a pad sound from scratch: from oscillators, to pitch, filters, and envelopes, all explained in simple terms.

Save this for your next session and try building your own sounds instead of always relying on presets.

So many producers feel stuck because of the toxic habits in the audio industry, from unsolicited feedback to gear shaming and the idea there’s only one “right” way to make music. I’ve spent years studying how confidence shapes our creativity, and these patterns are often the root of creative blocks. My book Creative Confidence & Music Production: Overcome Your Insecurities is all about finding freedom in your music again.

Sidechaining gets talked about like it’s some secret pro hack. But it’s actually one of the simplest tools you’ll ever use.

It’s just sounds taking turns, one ducks down so another can shine. That’s it. Here are the basics, no complex words, no gatekeeping. Save this for your next mix and try it yourself.

Tutorial bros love to make synthesis look like rocket science. It’s not. Synthesis just means shaping sounds, starting with a waveform and tweaking it step by step.

This carousel breaks it down in the simplest way possible so you can start experimenting without fear.

Save this for the next time you open a synth. ❤️
