GYANESH KUMAR — IT’S DONE, BRO!

As part of a week-long nationwide call given by the Left parties, a protest demonstration was held today in front of the Election Commission of India Headquarters demanding the ouster of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC). Dozens of cadres of Left parties, including CPI(M) General Secretary, M A Baby, senior leaders Brinda Karat and Subhashini Ali, Polit Bureau members B V Raghavulu and R Arun Kumar, Delhi State Secretary Anurag Saxena, Members of Parliament V Sivadasan and A A Rahim, were detained while attempting to reach the gate of Nirvachan Sadan, the head office of Election Commission of India.

Delhi police dragged and used brutal force on the peaceful protestors to detain them and disrupt the protest. Women protesters were manhandled and detained by male police officers during the protest demonstration. All those detained have now been released.

CPI(M) condemns the manhandling of protesters and vows to carry on the fight till all demands are met.

A massive protest was held at Dharna Chowk in Vijayawada under the banner of the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Gurukulam Part-Time Teachers and Lecturers Association, demanding the immediate payment of pending wages, job security, an increase in honorariums, and social security for part-time teachers and lecturers. CITU State Secretary R.V. Narasimha Rao and State leader Kollati Srinivasulu participated in the protest and extended their support.

At the call of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha–West Bengal Unit, a sit-in protest and public meeting was held at Rani Rashmoni Road in Kolkata demanding remunerative prices for potatoes, paddy and jute, adequate supply of fertilisers and an end to black marketing, restoration of MGNREGA with 200 days of work and ₹700 daily wages, removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, inclusion of all eligible voters excluded from the electoral rolls during the SIR process, waiver of agricultural loans, compensation for flood-related losses, control of abnormal price rise, withdrawal of ration cuts, and other demands.
