Also known as the Aussie, the Australian Shepherd naturally carries the gene for blue eyes. A high-energy working breed, the Aussie is beloved for its unique coloring—and not just its eyes! According to the Australian Shepherd Club of America, “The recognized colors are blue merle, red (liver) merle, solid black, and solid red (liver), all with or without white markings and/or tan (copper) points with no order of preference.”

Labrador Retrievers, in general, can have blue eyes, but we're specifically highlighting the chocolate lab for its unique coloring. Most chocolate labs have brown or hazel eyes, but in some cases of genetics, a brown puppy may possess blue eyes. These dogs are also highly coveted for their sweet, family-oriented dispositions, so they make great family pets.

Siberian Huskies are one of the few breeds in which blue eyes occur naturally. While many dogs with blue eyes have the merle gene present, the Siberian Husky actually doesn't possess this gene. Instead, it's thought that the ALX4 canine chromosome is to thank. This chromosome most commonly presents as a loss of pigmentation in the dog's irises, but not in its coat.

These are conditions that we see on a regular basis when rescuing kittens, but Cheeto was different because he couldn’t walk. Luckily for him, he found a most loving home anyway.

The Reptile Super Show and LA Pet Fair hosted at the Fairplex in Pomona, California, involves the sale of reptiles, birds, aquatic life, and other captive animals, disregarding animal cruelty, public health, and conservation concerns. Urge the Pomona Fairplex to stop hosting captive animal expos such as the Reptile Super Show and LA Pet Fair, and call on the County of Los Angeles Board of Supervisors (county supervisors) to ban these shows!

The Deonar Center is currently a permanent home to 78 dogs, including 18 blind dogs, and 55 cats who can’t be safely released. However, they all enjoy the love and care they get, and those with special needs love spending time in the blind garden when the weather permits.
