Andrew Tate Investigated for Crypto Fraud
Most of us have heard of Andrew Tate. The former kickboxer and shady head of Hustler University is sitting in a Romanian jail, suspected of human trafficking and sexual assault. However, Tate has another crime to add to his dubious repertoire – crypto fraud tax evasion. Apparently, the man who thought he was more clever than the women he trafficked isn’t smart enough to avoid getting into tax trouble. He assumed his crypto gains weren’t taxable when the IRS and other tax authorities made it clear that digital currency earnings are. This sends a clear signal to anyone who thinks they can hide from the taxman in the blockchain.

How the FBI’s Most Wanted Crypto Scam Queen Disappeared with $4 Billion
One of the most prolific and destructive crypto scammers Ruja Ignatova, also known as the “Crypto Queen,” is on the FBI’s top ten Most Wanted List. Back in 2013, she was pushing OneCoin as the “bitcoin killer” and founded an MLM that lured people in with educational courses and looped them into mandatory purchases. How did she get away with it? One way was cultivating a celebrity status. Her followers would become her defenders, although that changed with her disappearance in 2017. By the time her victims realized OneCoin was a fraud, she had hidden her assets all over the world. While the authorities are still searching, Ignatova – and her funds – could be anywhere.

Get a Geek Squad Message? Find Out How This Email Scam Works
It can be disconcerting to receive a message from a company you haven’t had previous contact with. Clearly, it’s either an error or something more pernicious. If you’ve received a message from Geek Squad confirming a purchase you’re sure you never made, you’re definitely not alone.
A lot of people are getting phony messages from people claiming to be from Geek Squad. They’ll say you purchased something with a high price tag or claim you have a subscription that will be renewed. They want you to contact them so you will give them personal details, such as credit cards and even social security numbers.
They’re counting on people desperate to correct these errors or get rid of these charges. In return, they’ll steal your data and may even hack your accounts. If you get these messages, don’t click on links, download anything or give away any info by phone. Ignore them or contact Geek Squad directly on their website.

Judge Orders Return of $17 Million to Bitconnect Crypto Scam Victims
In a victory for Bitconnect Crypto Scam victims, a U.S. judge in San Diego ordered a $17 million crypto recovery. BitConnect was labeled by the DoJ as a “textbook Ponzi scheme” and, at the time it was caught in 2017, had stolen a record number of funds from clients – $2.4 billion. This is only the beginning of the ongoing process of the BitConnect crypto recovery. BitConnect used typical crypto scam tactics. They claimed investors would make a 30% monthly return and inflated the value of its useless token through hype alone. It’s encouraging to see that BitConnect crypto scam victims are getting the refunds they deserve.

Will There Be a New Beginning for Genesis After Bankruptcy?
When the crypto sector heard about crypto-lender Genesis filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, the first reaction was “Oh no, not again!” However, it could be a new beginning for Genesis. The crypto lender faced significant headwinds with the collapse of the crypto scam FTX and Three Arrows Capital. The trouble began when it had to go into debt to cover huge customer withdrawals. Although Genesis isn’t 100% clean – it, along with Winklevoss-owned Gemini, was charged by the SEC for offering unregulated crypto securities – it may be able to weather the storm of recent crypto company collapses. However, the darker news for the rest of us is that, even if we aren’t dealing with an outright crypto scam, our accounts can still be at risk if the company goes under and files for bankruptcy. Although crypto recovery is likely for Genesis customers, it will be a long process.

FBI Warns Against Pig Butchering Scams
Pig butchering scams. There, do we have your attention? We must admit the name is a bit vivid–and perhaps stomach-turning, but it gives an idea of what scams do to your finances. Bernie Madoff, Sam Bankman-Fried, and the Ponzi schemes we don’t even know about yet are all examples of this kind of fraudulent scheme.
So what’s a pig butchering scam? Many frauds cast their net as wide as possible and try to catch as many people as they can. They may go for the quick steal, take the money and run.
Pig butchering scams are different. They are in it for the long haul. They encourage their targets to fatten their accounts, the way farmers fatten a pig for slaughter. Before their victims know it, the scammers take a knife to their accounts and they are bled dry.
This doesn’t sound very nice. That’s why it’s important to know the signs of a pig butchering scam to avoid them.

Mark Cuban Highlights the Threat of Wash Trade Crypto Scams
One thing we’ve learned from last year’s crypto fiascos — don’t automatically trust celebrity endorsements. However, one celebrity we can trust about crypto assets and other investment ideas is Mark Cuban. The Dallas Mavericks owner, entrepreneur and a regular on CNBC’s Shark Tank wants the public to know about a new kind of fraud, a crypto “wash” scam.
Actually “wash scams” aren’t new, but the term might be. It comes from the expression “It’s a wash.” This means both sides have an equal claim, so it’s even. In a wash scam, the schemer works both sides of the trade or creates fake trades and falsifies trading volumes. The idea is to make a crypto investment look hot…when it’s not.
A wash crypto scam creates an illusion of value so the scammer can charge as much as they want for something that is worthless.
