#BREAKING: Reddit has launched a High Court challenge to overturn Australia’s world-first ban on social media use by under-16s, arguing it unconstitutionally restricts political communication.

The platform says the law is ineffective and raises major privacy concerns, forcing minors to provide ID or facial scans to access a site built on pseudonymity.

Reddit also contends it should not be captured by the legislation, describing itself as an adult-focused public forum rather than a traditional social network.

A directions hearing is set for February, with a final ruling unlikely before late 2026.

#BREAKING: A suppression order has been lifted revealing Tom Silvagni - son of AFL great Stephen Silvagni - as the man found guilty last week of digitally raping a woman.

The 23-year-old has spent six days in custody after a jury heard he twice assaulted the woman in a dark bedroom in January last year, pretending to be her casual partner.

The order had restricted media reporting to avoid prejudicing the jury and due to concerns about his mental health, but the judge ruled his identity was already circulating widely online.

Silvagni will return to court tomorrow for a pre-sentence hearing.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has ordered diplomats to revert to Times New Roman for official documents, branding the 2023 switch to Calibri under predecessor Antony Blinken a “wasteful” and “woke” DEIA move.

The State Department had argued Calibri improved accessibility for people with disabilities, with studies suggesting sans-serif fonts can be easier to read for some users.

A leaked internal memo says the change back restores “decorum and professionalism,” with Calibri labelled too informal for official government correspondence.

The move comes as the Trump administration continues dismantling diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility programs across federal agencies.

Four European broadcasters from Ireland, Spain, Slovenia and the Netherlands - have confirmed they will not compete in Eurovision 2026, boycotting the contest after the EBU declined to hold a vote on whether Israel should compete amid the genocide in Gaza.

Delegates instead backed new rules to limit government or third-party influence on voting, a move critics said failed to address concerns about Israel’s inclusion.

Irish broadcaster RTÉ and Spanish broadcaster RTVE said participation was “unconscionable” and “insufficient”, while Dutch and Slovenian broadcasters also withdrew on values grounds.

The BBC and German broadcaster SWR confirmed they will still take part, with Israel officially cleared to compete in next year’s contest in Vienna.

Russia was banned from Eurovision after its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022; Israel, which has won four times, has competed for the past two years despite ongoing disputes over its participation.
