“Ask the price of freedom from those who’ve never tasted it.”
For some, independence is just a date. But for others, it’s a dream still out of reach — a longing that defines their every breath.
As Palestinian poet, Mahmoud Darwish wrote:
"I have learned and dismantled all the words in order to draw from them a single word: home."
Similarly, Nigerian writer, Chinua Achebe once wrote:
"A man who does not know where the rain began to beat him cannot say where he dried his body."
As Faiz Ahmed Faiz beautifully said:
(Even if my head rolls on the roadside, I would not hesitate to offer it for the dust of my homeland.)
Our nation, however flawed, we may question it, we may strive to improve it, but we cannot unlove it.
Because in the end, *home is never perfect — it is sacred.*
Happy independence day 🇵🇰
May we learn from history not to repeat its mistakes, but to honour its lessons in building a more just and conscious future.
We cannot move forward unless we understand where and how we were broken.
