Here we ago again. Riana Rouge video fully demonetized for a 4 second clip that aligns with the YouTube policy for acceptable footage. In the timestamp listed by YouTube as problematic, two characters briefly share a kiss. Just in case I obscured the kiss anyway because I know their system is stupid. I was demonetized for this kiss anyway despite kissing being listed explicitly as acceptable to show in the acceptable for ads policy. I decided to go ahead and completely blur and remove the footage entirely, 100% blurred and obscured YouTube has STILL decided that the footage shown is adult material. Mind you they don't think it's adult enough to age restrict the video nono, only to take away my compensation for the video. Very convenient.
This is happening to every video I upload at this point. My previous video was demonetized for a timestamp where a character is sitting calmly in the kitchen having a conversation about a neutral topic. Koudelka was demonetized because of the final boss's smooth mannequin chest. Faust was demonetized for a ghost dancing "provocatively". Genuinely I don't know what I'm even allowed to show at this point because their guidelines on what's acceptable just mean nothing. Often when editing you'll find yourself censoring, removing, or sidestepping acceptable footage purely because you KNOW that YouTube will flag it despite it being listed as acceptable.
It's very discouraging to work on a project this long just for a 4 second timestamp that does NOT go against the YouTube policy to completely pull the rug out from under the entire 53 minute video. I am not even given a chance to simply remove the clip, and I can't even change and reupload the video. Even with the problem timestamp 100% blurred, this video is deemed fully unacceptable because of this 4 second clip no matter what and I cannot speak to anyone on it further. Decision final.
Let me be real with you guys for a second about what the real issue here is. Unfortunately these videos take a tremendous amount of time to create. I love making these videos and will do so even if YouTube wants to be a bully. However, the constant BS does make it difficult. I typically try to upload monthly because while the revenue from the videos isn't a TON it does still help, and it helps cover some of the dozens of hours that go into making them. Going forward I think I may need to cut back on the frequency of uploads as it's very hard to dedicate full time hours to something that is met with this kind of result. As much as I would love to have all the time in the world to dedicate to the video making hobby, I only have so much time in a day and I still have bills to pay so I have to make time priorities. I think going forward we'll try once every 2 months and see if that's more manageable for me time dedication wise. I suppose an alternate solution is to stop covering any games rated above T? I don't know. I'm sure they'd find a problem there too.
Without it's creators uploading, YouTube would quite literally have nothing. I hope that the way they go about treating the people that keep their platform alive gets better at some point. I am far from the only person experiencing these kinds of problems, YouTube is just kind of known for it which is unfortunate.
I apologize for ranting like this, but man it's genuinely frustrating to deal with YouTube sometimes. 🙏 I hate that patreon, sponsorships, and ko-fi are even a thing for creators. YouTube should be paying the people pouring hundreds of hours of work into the videos that make their platform relevant fairly... Unfortunately they do not, or in my case not at all.
