Major Update: H-1B Visa Policy Change – Effective Sept 21, 2025

On September 19, 2025, a Presidential Proclamation was issued to address systemic abuse of the H-1B visa program. Starting September 21, 2025, any new H-1B petition must include a $100,000 payment.



Key Points:
Applies only to new petitions filed after Sept 21, 2025
Does NOT apply to:
Petitions filed before the effective date
Approved petitions
Valid H-1B visa holders
Renewals or extensions of existing H-1B status


Note on Renewals/Extensions:
If you're currently on an H-1B visa and planning to extend or renew, you're not affected by the new $100,000 fee. This policy targets new entries only, not ongoing employment.



What This Means:
New applicants face a steep financial hurdle
Existing H-1B holders and renewals/extensions remain unaffected
The policy is prospective only—no retroactive impact
