I have been learning about cuetlaxōchitl or poinsettias my entire life. Here’s a childhood picture of me with this beautiful plant (1992) and a photo of me just the other day (2025)! Are there any plants that take you back to your childhood? Or that remind you of a particular event or person?

🌙 Nighttime Garden Harvest After a 13-Hour Day in the Heat! 🌽🍆🌶️
I was in the garden from 7 AM to 8 PM—yes, during this brutal heat wave—and wrapped it all up with this nighttime harvest. I pulled corn, eggplant, peppers, tomatoes, yard long beans, and even some dried herbs.
This harvest may look calm and peaceful, but it came after a long day of hard work, heat, and hustle. Gardening isn’t always glamorous, but it’s always rewarding.

Did you know citrus trees are evergreens? 🍊🎄
Here in coastal Georgia, we’re giving a festive twist to tradition by lighting up our orange tree in addition to the classic pine. Because why not let citrus shine this season?
Here’s a fun fact: cold weather plays an important role in ripening oranges! Cooler temperatures can enhance the vibrant orange color as chlorophyll breaks down to reveal the fruit’s natural pigments. However, the sweetness of the fruit depends on time spent on the tree, not the temperature—so a little patience is key!🔑
Who says Christmas trees have to be pine?

It’s day 2 of #vlogmas2024 and I am wanting to talk a little bit about poinsettias.
Poinsettias, often called the 'Christmas flower,' are vibrant plants native to Mexico.
Their striking red, white, or pink leaves (called bracts) are often mistaken for flowers, but the true flowers are the tiny yellow blooms at the center. Named after Joel Poinsett, the first U.S. ambassador to Mexico, they’ve become a holiday favorite for adding festive cheer to homes and celebrations. 🎄✨ #PoinsettiaFacts #HolidayPlants

Hello December 🌲💚
September was a whirlwind—I posted every day and felt unstoppable. Then life took a hard turn. My granddad fell ill, and by the last day of the month, he was gone. Grief has kept me away from the garden and from posting, but I’m slowly finding my way back.
This December, I’m easing in with Vlogmas! I may not be in the garden much (my fall garden was left behind in the process), but I’m excited to clear things out and prep for a fresh start in 2025.
What are your plans for the final chapter of 2024? Let’s finish strong together! ❤️🌿

Hey y’all! Look what or should I say who, I spotted in my tomatoes 🍅 today 😡
**📸: A Close Encounter with Tomato Pests!**
🌿🍅 **Gardening Chronicles: Tackling Tomato Pests** 🍅🌿
Hello, fellow gardeners! Today, I found some uninvited guests on my tomato plants. These little critters are commonly known as **leaf-footed bug nymphs**. While they might look fascinating, they can cause quite a bit of damage to your precious tomatoes. Here’s what to do when you spot garden pests:
1. Identify the Culprits:
These are leaf-footed bugs in their early stages. They’re notorious for sucking the juices out of tomatoes, causing discoloration and sometimes leading to a poor harvest.
2. Manual Removal:
The most straightforward method is to remove them by hand. Wear gloves and gently pick them off the plants. Drop them into a bucket of soapy water to ensure they don't come back. Some people even use a hand vacuum if they don’t want to touch them. Be careful not to harm your plants 🌱.
3. Prune Infected Areas:
If damage has been done, cut off any heavily infested leaves or stems. This helps prevent the bugs from spreading to other parts of the plant and it keeps the plant from using energy trying to heal an already damaged area.
4. Use Insecticidal Soap:
If the infestation is extensive, consider using an insecticidal soap. It’s a more natural way to handle pests without harming beneficial insects.
5. Introduce Beneficial Insects: Encourage natural predators like ladybugs and lacewings into your garden. They love to feast on these pests and can help keep the population in check.
6. Regular Monitoring:
Keep an eye on your plants regularly. Early detection can save your plants from severe damage. I was just harvesting tomatoes yesterday and doing a thorough check so these insects popped up just today. A lot can happen if left unchecked.
Gardening is a journey with its ups and downs, but dealing with pests is just part of the adventure. Don't get discouraged – every challenge is a learning opportunity! 🌱💪
