"Dwell on the beauty of life. Watch the stars, and see yourself running with them." - M Aurelius
I’m Francisco, a beginner learning in public. I test astro myths and gear so you don’t waste clear nights. Expect real-sky experiments with side-by-sides, fair rules (same target, same night), no hype, just data. Weekly(-ish), we rotate through three segments: Mythbusting (common beliefs, put to the test), Astro Oddities (quirky/vintage hardware that still slaps?), and 3D-Printed Tech (prints that actually help under the stars). You’ll see smart scopes (SeeStar), first-rig builds (Z61 + trackers), DSLR vs cooled OSC face-offs, EQ mode, wedges, guiding, filters, and simple, beginner-level processing—with the WHY explained as we go. Ask questions in the comments; I’ll test what you want next. Start with “Smart Scope vs First Rig,” then stick around for old-vs-new shoots and quick field guides. Clear skies!

I generally dont mind if people modify my 3d model designs for their own personal non commercial use. People reach out to me weekly and show off the cool mods they do to my files. I love it! I do take issue when people take my designs, modify them just enough, then attempt to sell them as their own. I may need to just NOT release future designs to the general public because of this.
The fact they are all the same height, and have the nut and bolt in the same spot with the same orientation, and the same curvature to the piece, is a little sus. I like adding in flourishes to my designs because its my style.
I also add things in by mistake. I know why there is a hard to design and implement step on the inside of the barrel, and why the plate that holds the EAF is that thickness. I wonder if the others do as well?
It probably takes the same effort to modify a design as it would have to just come up with something different, and I really hope I'm wrong. Im not accusing anyone of anything directly. I am just surprised that in a market so devoid of cool innovation from the big brands, so many hobbyist products can come out looking so similar. Like we can do anything guys, lets get weird with it!
In the grand scheme of world events, none of this even matters. It will probably lead me to a few different conclusions, make my designs private, and or get an IP lawyer on retainer. I never want to charge for the designs, but i may need to figure something out.
Im mostly ranting now, im just a little disheartened. If you wonder why im not releasing 3d files for a bit, this stuff is why

First look at the upcoming focus motor from @Svbony , so far, this thing seems really nice. I’ll be making a short video showing it off and SVbony have asked me to ask you all for feedback. This is one of the reasons I really like working with SVbony. They are genuinely interested in customer feedback.
Type C
WiFi
Temp Sensor
Dense well machined body
Sticks out way less than the competitors, it’s really compact.
What do you all think?

What should I set up at a remote observatory? I will be partnering with a to be announced remote observatory company, and will set up a rig for a reoccurring Friday night stream. What should go there?

New video out tomorrow. The @Svbony #mk127 3d printed accessories! And a quick review. I haven’t had enough clear nights to do my typical battery of tests, but this is a good start. Stay tuned!

I’m working through my review of this mak, and also the free download of a focusing bracket solution that works with all focus motors. Do you have anything specific about the @Svbony mk127 I should test? I’m going galaxy hunting with it!
