🌍 Native speakers, we need your help with a small experiment!

For every SEIKILO premiere, we spend considerable time preparing and correcting the English subtitles by hand, making sure they are accurate, clear, and properly timed.

Until now, we have then translated them ourselves into another 6–7 languages, usually choosing them based on where our viewers have been watching from.

But YouTube's automatic translation seems to have improved considerably.

We tested the translation of our latest video in Greek, and the result was surprisingly impressive. As for the other languages, we'd like to ask the people who can judge them best: you!

🎬 Open our latest video here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGFeJ...
and watch a few minutes with subtitles in your native language.

If they don't appear automatically, try:
⚙️ Settings → Subtitles/CC → Auto-translate → Select your language

Then come back and vote!

📊 How good is YouTube's translation in your native language?

👇 After voting, please leave a comment telling us:

🌍 Your native language
⚙️ Whether the translated subtitles appeared automatically or you had to enable Auto-translate yourself
💬 Any strange translations or important mistakes you noticed

If possible, check a few different parts of the video, especially sections involving tuning, materials, strings, and playing techniques. These are probably a much tougher test for automatic translation than ordinary conversation.

Your feedback will help us reach a wider audience by revealing which languages YouTube already handles well.

Thank you for helping us make SEIKILO accessible to more people around the world! 🌍🎵

🎼 Every now and then, someone in our community surprises us with a completely unexpected project. Today we'd love to introduce you to one of them.

🪕 Discover Chelys – an interactive ancient Greek lyre experience

One such example is Chelys, an interactive application created by Jacob Ibáñez Sánchez from Barcelona.

🎶 Chelys invites anyone to explore and play a virtual ancient Greek lyre directly in their browser through a simple and engaging interactive experience.

The latest version even includes a musical challenge inspired by the famous Seikilos Epitaph, allowing players to learn and perform one of the oldest surviving complete melodies in history.

Over the past months, we have had the pleasure of following Jacob's project from its early stages, exchanging ideas and watching it evolve. It has been inspiring to see such care, curiosity and creativity invested in making the ancient Greek lyre accessible to a wider audience.

👉 Try Chelys here:
patatabravajocs.itch.io/chelys

💬 We'd love to hear your thoughts after trying it!

💙 If you enjoy Jacob's work and would like to support its future development, you can also do so here: patatabravajocs.aixeta.cat/en/subscriptions

Thank you, Jacob, for sharing your creativity with the ancient lyre community. We are looking forward to seeing where Chelys goes next. 💙

ARcient 🏛️ Music Exhibition: Toward a Borderless Museum of Ancient Music
Early presentations, audience insights, and the road ahead

As we move closer to the official release of ARcient Music Exhibition, the first ancient musical instrument exhibition built entirely with Augmented Reality and designed to become borderless, we presented an early version of the project to live audiences.

Pilot presentations took place in Izmir on October 12 and in Nicosia on November 24, allowing us to gather valuable feedback and observe how audiences engage with this new form of cultural experience.

Through an interactive AR environment, visitors explored the history of ancient Greek musical instruments using lifelike 3D models, recorded music performed on each instrument, and narrated historical context. The goal was to make ancient music immersive, accessible, and free from the limitations of traditional museum spaces.

One of the most frequent suggestions was to include ancient musical instruments from cultures around the world in future updates of the application. This feedback will actively shape the next development phases of the project.

ARcient Music Exhibition aims to make ancient music and cultural heritage accessible worldwide through immersive Augmented Reality, offering a museum experience that transcends physical borders.

📍 Next stop: Malmö, Sweden (details to be announced soon)

✨ More than Sound – The Stories Behind the Lyre (Augmented Reality Exhibition Update!)

The ancient instruments are defined not only by their sound or their striking appearance. Their true depth lies in the timeless stories and myths that have surrounded them for over two millennia: Hermes crafting the first lyre from a tortoise shell, Apollo becoming the god of music and healing, Sappho singing of love with her barbitos, and Orpheus descending into the underworld with music as his guide.
Through these stories, the Lyre of Apollo, Kithara, Phorminx, Epigonion, Sambuca, Pandura, Monochord, Tympanon, and the Lyres of Ur and Har Megiddo become more than musical artifacts. They become bridges between myth, history, and cultural memory.

Within the SEIKILO ARcient Music Exhibition — the Augmented Reality experience that complements the museum’s collection — we are now shaping the texts and narratives that will bring these myths to life in our AR app.

📷 With detailed 3D models and carefully written narratives, the AR app will allow audiences everywhere to step into this living heritage and experience ancient music in context.

Stay tuned!

🏺 The Return of Twelve Legendary Instruments in 3D

Did you know that beyond being storytellers and master handcrafters, the SEIKILO Museum and LUTHIEROS Music Instruments team also brings together 3D artists and AR developers?

To share the ancient world experience everywhere, our artifacts are being digitally reconstructed with care and precision: from the Chelys Lyre of Apollo and Hermes, the Barbitos, and the Kithara, to the Epigonion, Phorminx, Sambuca, the Lyres of Ur and Har Megiddo, the Monochord of Pythagoras, the Pandura, and the Tympanon — twelve legendary instruments come to life once again in digital form.

These 3D models form the foundation for the AR experiences to come, helping us bring the timeless legacy of ancient music closer to today’s audiences.

Here’s a first look at some work-in-progress screenshots — a glimpse of the ancient world reimagined for the digital age.
