Bioprotection Aotearoa

We are one step closer to protecting kauri from kauri dieback ✨

In our next Rangahau Rising webinar, Dr Mariana Tarallo (Lincoln University) speaks to her Tranche 1 postdoctoral research on the molecular "weapons" that Phytophthora agathidicida, the kauri dieback pathogen, uses to infect its kauri host.

Phytophthora species rely on molecules known as effector proteins to manipulate plant cells and suppress immune responses. In this talk, Mariana will explore how these effectors contribute to infection and could be potential targets for long-term control of kauri dieback.

Bioprotection Aotearoa

Our wee podcast went up against two high calibre productions for Best Science & Environmental Podcast at the 2026 NZ Radio & Podcast Awards last week, RNZ’s Our Changing World and Voice of the Sea Ice. Congratulations to Voice of the Sea Ice for winning the category - it was epic to be recognised alongside two greats of the science podcast world.

A big mihi to everyone who brought Under the Lens to life, and to all of you for watching and your support 💚 Thanks to you, we have another season coming soon! We are excited to continue to kōrero with you, dive into tough bioprotection challenges together, and have a bit of fun along the way.
