Hey there! It's been a bit, I know... I have a new video coming out pretty soon! If you want to watch it RIGHT NOW, you can, over on my Patreon, for just $1. If not, that's all good, it will go public for everyone in a couple days.
While I've been working on my next big video (read on for progress on that), I've been putting out smaller YouTube Shorts, just as a way to keep myself in the creative loop. I liked the constraints that a minute of content gave me, it's a way to force myself to be concise and make something in a weekend, and not turn every little fact into a 25-minute odyssey.
But it seems YouTube Shorts has changed drastically since I started posting there? I can't even put a custom thumbnail on them anymore, so my most recent short went out to subscribers with a really stupid-looking picture. And I can't change it. So of course nobody clicked on it, lol. And even if you do, you get trapped in this godawful interface now. So I think I'm gonna stop making the shorts.
As for the bigger video, it's currently 40 minutes long, and I'm still unhappy with a few of the sections, so it's undergoing a few rewrites. But I can reveal it's a full-on video about a very specific, weird detail in Breath of the Wild.
I'm ecstatic to see so many people enjoying the recent video on Super Mario Galaxy's spherical planets. It's been such a huge project for me that I was worried it wouldn't get any traction, but it's been doing fairly well! By far, though, the biggest request I've gotten is.. more detail! A lot of you want me to dive far deeper into the technical nitty gritty, explaining the 3D math behind each of the gravity fields, and the inner workings of the gravity system as a whole.
And I think that's a great idea!
So! My new plan is to still try to edit Part 2 of the Scruffy interview first, and have that up relatively soon, but after that, I'm going to start on the sequel to this video. And since it'll be more direct, and more detailed, I want to take the opportunity to experiment with the format; my typical "YouTube voice" just isn't the vehicle to talk about dot products and cone-ray intersection. So please bare with me while I figure all of that out, but I promise I'll try to keep it as interesting as I can, while going into a lot more of the actual underlying mechanics. Who knows, maybe it'll even be a livestream, and you can come hang out and ask me some questions directly! Does that sound like a good idea? I've never done one of those before, so it'll probably be a glorious disaster, but... I'm super excited!
So, I wanted to spend this week editing together Part 2 of the Scruffy interview session, but on a whim, I decided to instead work on my next big video project instead, and I feel like I made a major breakthrough today. I'm super happy with how it's been coming together and I think you'll really enjoy it! Enjoy this tiny sneak preview from the extensive research process.
I've really enjoyed making videos for all of you, and I promise there's always more in the pipeline. I really do want to get these videos out more frequently, but it's very much a labor of love for me, done in spare time I don't always have, and I'm not currently in a position to do this full-time, though it really has been on my mind a lot lately. Thanks to all of you for your support so far; making videos has really changed my life for the better this past year, and I owe it all to everyone who has watched and enjoyed my work. I have the best audience <3
