The "Cheat Code" allowed in the exam...
Remember that Calculus question from Tuesday where some of you lost the
x-coordinate marks?
Here is how you check it in 10 seconds.
Most students use their calculator just for sums. A* students use it to verify.
If you are solving a quadratic or finding turning points:
1️⃣ Hit Mode/Setup
2️⃣ Select Table
3️⃣ Type in your function f(x)
4️⃣ Scan the table for where y goes up and down (or equals 0).
It literally tells you the answer before you even factorise.
Don’t go into your January Mocks hoping your algebra is perfect. Check it.
👇 Be honest: Did you know your calculator could do this?

Christmas. Winter Break. You can almost smell it.
At this time of year, it is important to realise how exhausted we all are. Especially in the Northern Hemisphere, the journey to school and back in the pitch black feels like it will never end.
It’s not just the days that are dark—sometimes the path to that A* feels dark too.
The spectre of Mocks in January and February looms large. A part of us wants to push it away and say: “That is a 2026 problem.”
But what if you had a plan? A plan that lets you say: “I’ve got it covered.”
I run the iGCSE Mock Rescue for exactly this reason: To lead you out of the dark and give you clarity on how to secure that A*.
👇 Enjoy your Winter Break without the pressure of Mocks hanging over you.
I have opened 20 spots so I can give you the time and attention you deserve. Book here to secure a spot: fasttrack.carrd.co/
You will feel better for it.

Testing Tuesday: The Calculus Trap
90% of students can differentiate this, but only 40% get the final x co-ordinates right.
Question: Find the x-coordinates of the turning points for: y = x³ - 9x² - 48x
👇 Vote for your answer below.
(I am sending the full worked solution and the 'Factorising Hack' to my email list tomorrow morning. Not on the list? Get the answer here: ginger-mathematician.kit.com/ced1d9672b)

I hope she forgives me.
It was the start of Art in Year 8 and we were beginning portrait drawing. As we were paired up by the seating plan, I was paired with Mary.
Over the next weeks and months (it felt like years), we had to draw a pencil portrait of each other.
And I tried.
To the best of my ability.
It was awful. I hope she's forgiven me. And in that year, I came bottom in my entire year for Art.
That is quite hard to do!
I'm sure you have had your own experience of hitting a wall in a subject. But accepting we can't be good at everything is fine.
However, here is the big difference between my Art class and your Maths exam:
Maths is a ladder.
You don't have to be a natural artist to climb it. You just need to know which rung to step on next.
So the next time you stare at that Probability question, don't worry about being "good" or "bad." Just focus on the next small step. The improvement will come.
P.S. Not sure which rung of the ladder you are on? Download my iGCSE Ultimate Maths Checklist By Grade here: ginger-mathematician.kit.com/ced1d9672b
Once you've downloaded it, take a look and hit reply: Which topic on that list is your biggest "Red Flag" right now?

Live Bootcamp & A* Accelerator: I need your feedback.
I am currently planning my schedule for the run-up to the May 2026 Exams.
I am looking to work with a small group of students (Maximum 20-50) at a much higher level to guarantee Grade 8/9 or A*s.
I am considering two options:
Dubai Live: A 2-Day Intensive Bootcamp in Downtown Dubai (March 2026).
A* Accelerator: An 8-week online mentorship program with personalized video marking.
I need to know if the demand is there before I book the venues/schedule.
If you (or your parents) would be interested in securing a spot for either of these premium programs, please join the Priority Waitlist below.
Note: This will be separate from my usual YouTube content. This is for students who want personal coaching.

Mocks are a complete waste of time.
Yes, I mean it.
They are a waste of time for the student, their parents, and us teachers IF:
You have not completed the course. (How can you test what you haven't learned?)
The student is not prepared to take it as seriously as the actual exam.
The paper is weak. (If the mock doesn't mimic the actual exam difficulty, the data is useless).
However, if you achieve these 3 criteria, mocks can have a deep and meaningful impact. They allow you to see exactly where you stand and give you enough time to fix the topics that matter.
Just like a runner, put in the hard time during the training and the marathon becomes so much easier. Believe me, I ran a half marathon 2 months ago and the training made all the difference.
That’s why you need to take your Mocks seriously.
Don't leave your preparation to chance (or a teacher who might not have covered everything).
P.S. Ready to ensure your Mocks actually count? Level up your performance with my iGCSE Maths Non-Calculator Masterclass tomorrow: calendly.com/samgower1988/igcse-non-calculator-mas…
