A long tiring day, but plenty of filming done.
I set off this morning at 07:45 (Gordo walked at 06:30) to drive to to Pickering to meet Phil.
Lost Railway Towns of Pickering and Kirkby Moorside ticked off.
Then further up north to Ingleby Greenhow to climb the Ingleby incline.
Ps. That was steep. Stunning location though.
Back to Whitby at 19:30 for some fish and chips 🙂

This is one of my late father's photos, taken in this location in July 2000. Exactly 26 years to the week that I visited to film my video.
It's another town that lost it's railway, before a preservation movement allowed the railway story to live on.

So far we've followed the Dearne & Dove Canal all the way from Swinton, deep into the heart of industrial Barnsley.
In our next video, that industry (or the lack of it) takes centre stage as we pass through Stairfoot. Once a maze of railways, collieries, factories and heavy industry. Today...you would never recognise it as the same place.

Why Does Restoring the Chesterfield Canal Take So Long?
This might sound like a contraversial title to my next Chesterfield Canal Trust Restoration video. But it's one of the most raised questions whenever I post about the restoration or upload a video.
I want to use this months update video to look at the bigger picture. This isn't just about Staveley and the missing 9 miles. This restoration has come further than you think...and hopefully it's back on track. The huge task started in the mid 90s - 30 years ago. And has already restored 12 miles of canal back to navigation.

Alongside updates, we'll be looking at the bigger picture - that 12 miles have already been restored. "Just" 9 miles left. But what a whopper of a 9 miles.
