Update: Out now! https://youtu.be/uIoB3c6jMn4 One hour from now: Another episode of New Hope! Time travel is a strange thing... something.. seems off about Dabura...
Spoilers ahead! So keep scrolling if you wanna avoid them. For the rest of December, we have two Dragon Ball New Hope videos coming out this week, one DBAF Revival (Toyotaro), the DB Extinction full story video in a couple weeks, then we'll probably cap off the year with some Multiverse. I think it's becoming a tradition to post one every Christmas.
I know a lot of people are disappointed with Extinction's ending. In my notes, I messed up and wrote down it was a finished story and it wasn't. It ends on that last page with Frieza saying he knows where to find the last Saiyan.
So I had a choice- Upload yet another story with no ending whatsoever. Or use the resources I had to make an ending in about two weeks.
Then I could've ended the story at the Grand Priest's defeat which could've been a more natural/optimistic ending and add a few more pages or just tell the author's story as written and figure something out after Vegeta's defeat.
THEN looking at my bank account, my budget was approximately two shoelaces and a cantaloupe. The pages starting with Tarble were made by Kou who also did the DBAF Full Color project, not the original author, Diego Gronert, who stopped working on Extinction about 2 years ago. I can't compliment Kou enough for her quality of work on top of working around the clock to meet the video's deadline.
If I had about another year to work on it, here's what I would've addressed.
The "Vegeta" Zeno defeated would be revealed to be the third Multiform - as Krillin pointed out during their training the version he uses makes 2 clones. I think I'd have him sense the others in Otherworld giving him hope. He's able to escape to figure out a plan.
The Earthlings don't get erased by the Grand Priest's divine energy because one of the earrings was broken when he destroyed the Earth - so they at least can be wished back.
Goku is a tougher one. Leave him erased or shoehorn in something that saves him. The only thing I can think of is looking back at Whis's conversation with Koil. He "promises" him he will get his payment very shortly before he dies (payment being a fight with Goku). So maybe he zips in, reverses time, and retrieves him.
We'd then need to further address who Koil is and what his beef with Goku is. I honestly have no idea where the author would have gone with this. All we know is he's a Universe 7 assassin employed by the Angels. Maybe he's a member of Hit's race with the marks on his face?
Yamoshi remains alive because he's immortal, but trapped. The obvious route to go here is to retrieve him. His location is unknown because the Grand Priest dematerialized the jar he put him - so he could be anywhere.
Why Tarble at the end and not Broly? Initially, that image depicted Broly instead - but then I remembered Yamoshi is a stand-in for Broly in this story, so Tarble could be the only Saiyan left. Frieza would also know about him to a degree.
Then it sounds like the author was winding up for a Divine Hierarchal war. I imagine this means an OC on the level of Zeno. For some reason, they did not want Saiyans to be a factor in this battle. This is also where I'd have Beerus faction with our heroes over the Angels.
As for the war itself, I'd probably go the route of taking down the Divine order by Vegeta sacrificing himself and the "Extinction" in Dragon Ball Extinction referring to his death being symbolic of him being the last "true" Saiyan - this is backed up by Yamoshi's pep talk upon reviving him.
I think Diego Gronert did a fine job and just ran out of gas when getting ready for that second arc - which is understandable after 300+ pages - but I'm grateful I got to tell his story nonetheless.
