The Horror Movie Syllabus is an introduction to Modern Horror (generally described as horror movies from 1970 to the present, with some notable exceptions) using a carefully-crafted syllabus of horror sub-genres and presenting three essential movies for each sub-genre. The three movies will be classified as either Undergraduate, Graduate, or Post-Graduate, with each classification's meaning being dependent on the movie selections for the particular sub-genre. Professor Victor will guide viewers through the syllabus, presenting selections for each sub-genre and inviting other horror aficionados to opine on additional and/or alternative selections in the comments. The Horror Movie Syllabus is a crash-course on horror movies, a place to pleasantly debate, and a puzzle to figure out how to get the syllabus to represent all of the horror movies you think are essential.

We're coming up on Spooky Season and, as many of you know, I like to do a marathon of a horror franchise every October. I've already done Halloween, Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Saw and Scream. I'm looking for your input on what this year's franchise should be. Please cast your vote below. Thanks!

Quick question/poll for y'all: would you enjoy seeing HMS Shorts about new movies I see that aren't horror movies (e.g., Superman, Lilo & Stitch, etc.)?

Sorry for the delay in this week's Dark Fantasy Doctorate video. A last-minute copyright claim (literally just hours before the video was scheduled to drop) blocked the video, but I've appealed and it's visible now. Hopefully there won't be any further issues with it (knock on wood).

Sorry there's no video today. Netflix has decided to do a takedown of this week's video. I've already filed the Counternotification and was hoping they would reinstate it in time, but no such luck. I expect they will wait out the full time period, so probably the video will show up late next week. Sorry again!

Thanks to everyone for watching the Best of 2024 video and helping it perform well, and a special thanks to those who provided their feedback regarding newer releases. We've decided to focus a little bit more on them (kind of like we did this year): there will definitely be a Best of 2025 video at the end of the year, and perhaps some of the Syllabus subgenres will contain current releases. There will likely be more "Is It Syllabus-Worthy" videos on new releases, although those might not come out until after the releases are available on streaming (for editing purposes). Also, I'm contemplating doing some YT shorts of my immediate thoughts after seeing something new in theaters. We'll see how it goes.

It's that time of year again! Every October I like to do a marathon of a horror franchise. While I frequently don't get through the entire series, it's a lot of fun for me to see how far I can get. I've already done Halloween, Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Saw. I'm looking for your input on what this year's franchise will be. Please pick one of the below options or pick "Other" and leave a comment with your suggestion. Thanks!

Hi friends! Just FYI: it looks like this week's video is going to be delayed a bit thanks to an inappropriate copyright claim that I am having to challenge. I am hoping/expecting the video to be up by Friday evening/Saturday at the latest (fingers crossed!). Sorry for any inconvenience!

So it looks like this week's video is going to be delayed due to a copyright takedown notice. It's nonsense, of course, but it's probably going to take up to 10 business days to clear it up so it might be a bit before you get to see it. Sorry for any inconvenience and I appreciate your interest!
