One of the most powerful claims of the New Testament is that Jesus is the fulfillment of the Law and the Prophets. Yet many Christians struggle to see how the Torah—the first five books of Moses—actually points to Jesus as the Messiah. While much Christian apologetics focuses on messianic prophecies in Isaiah or the Psalms, this class takes a different approach by turning our attention to the foundational books of the Hebrew Scriptures.
Across five sessions, students will uncover the patterns, promises, and types embedded in the Torah that find their ultimate fulfillment in Christ. From the seed of the woman in Genesis, to the Passover lamb in Exodus, to the bronze serpent in Numbers, students will learn how the Torah lays the groundwork for the Gospel. This course will equip students to see the continuity of God’s plan from the earliest chapters of Scripture and to present compelling evidence from the Torah that Jesus is, indeed, the long-awaited Messiah.
Module I – Genesis: The End in the Beginning Module II – Exodus: God’s Dwelling in the World Module III – Leviticus: The Liturgical Messiah Module IV – Numbers: Journey to the End of Days Module V – Deuteronomy: Onto the Inheritance

The first of Zechariah’s visions reveals a heavenly man “standing among the myrtle trees in the depths” (Zechariah 1:8), sitting on a red horse, with three other horses behind him. Comparing this with the other prophetic books of the same era is highly instructive. Ezekiel’s first vision, for example, presents God enthroned upon the cherubim-driven chariot, with the enthroned God described as one “a likeness with a human appearance” (Ezekiel 1:26). Zechariah’s night visions pertain to the upbuilding of the sanctuary, and Ezekiel’s temple vision similarly begins with a heavenly “man” who is “standing” and addresses the prophet (Ezekiel 40:3-4). There is a peculiar link, therefore, between the God of Israel and the one of human appearance. The context of the historical moment explains why. The Exodus culminated with the descent of God from Heaven to dwell with His people in Exodus 40, and this character defines the very identity of Israel as a holy nation. Enthroned between the cherubim on the ark of the covenant, God lived with His nation in the tabernacle. Even when the Philistines defeated Israel in 1 Samuel 4, the ark of the covenant continued to exist, eventually returning to dwell in Jerusalem in 2 Samuel 6 before being embedded in the Temple in 1 Kings 7-8. But with the exile, the Temple was not only destroyed- the ark of the covenant was lost. Yet the prophetic hope is concentrated on the coming of the Divine Presence to dwell with the nation. Hence, at this peculiar moment in history, we have a special emphasis on God’s identification with the nation and unshakeable intent to dwell with His people.

The most common Protestant critique of Orthodox (and Roman Catholic) Christianity is that it is “unbiblical.” My class “Answering Protestantism from the Bible” is an essential resource for anyone interested in Orthodox Christianity and its relationship with the Reformation traditions.
The class consists of seventeen hours (divided into 15 parts) of concise and meticulously researched lectures covering the main Protestant critiques of traditional Christian beliefs and practices (e.g. the veneration of saints, justification by theosis, apostolic succession, and much more). Not only does it critique Protestant theology, but it also provides a constructive case for Orthodox Christianity.
The uniqueness of this class is that it does not look beyond the Bible (to “tradition” or anything else) but shows how the Biblical text itself is consistent with traditional Christian theology, sacramentology, and ecclesiology. Its primary goal is not to be polemical, but to provide a constructive and developed case for traditional Christian doctrines and practices.
This class will be especially useful for any questioning Protestants searching for a critical examination of Protestantism that properly respects the Biblical text as the inspired word of God. It will also be helpful for any Orthodox or Catholic Christian apologists who want to become more educated on the Biblical foundations of their faith.

All idolatry is fundamentally self-worship. The creation is a single, integrated whole destined for unification in terms of man’s headship. In the divine plan, the head of the world is called to gaze upon God and so refract the glory of God into the world. By turning inwards to the world rather than upon God, man cuts the circuit by which divine life flows to the universe. Thus, Isaiah 40-55 frequently recalls the sovereignty of God as the creator of the world and contrasts this with the human fashioning of idols (Isaiah 44:9-11). Idolatry is fundamentally the embrace of a lie: that the cosmos is self-contained and can be known without reference to God as its supreme principle. This, moreover, is why Genesis 11 describes how the builders of Babel sought to constitute a “name” for themselves (Genesis 11:4). As the world is made through the Word, the name of a thing denotes its principle of being- and it is a fundamental principle running through all reality that names are not self-endowed: even God is named in relation, being known as Father through His begetting of the Word.

Free choice consists in the capacity to act creatively: our free choice emerges out of our being created in the image of God: yet God cannot do evil. What this demonstrates is that free choice is not fundamentally the capacity to choose between good and evil. Rather, free choice emerges out of the very context in which man is designated as the image of God: it is the capacity to create any variety of worlds. God made the world unformed and void: and spent six days creatively molding the world into elevated degrees of perfection. Mankind is created as God’s partner in the ongoing development of the world. As evil is a privation of or corruption upon the good with reference to which the cosmos exists, our capacity to utilize our power of willing to choose contrary to the good is the result of our being created in a state of partial development in conjunction with our being endowed, as persons, with the power of choice. Human beings are called to be God’s partner in bringing the world to its perfection and completing the work of creation: and since we are a microcosm of the world which we are called to elevate, we participate even in our own creative development. Yet that which has not attained its fixity in goodness can ascend upwards or decay downwards. In the world to come, we will forever choose among the goodnesses of God, but our faculty of willing becomes fixed in God. It is like white light: we are fixed in the vision of the bright glory of God: but that brightness opens out into an infinite variety of colors. There is only one path: yet there are many paths.

Answering Protestantism from the Bible 17 Hour Lecture Set: stacollege.org/courses/answering-protestantism/

You can purchase the class here: stacollege.org/courses/answering-protestantism/
Or with "Answering Calvinism from the Bible" (23 hours total) here: stacollege.org/product/answering-protestantism-and…
Sample lecture here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spQOr...
