Frugal Queen in France.
Welcome to our channel. We are Jane and Mike, British early retirees living in France. We live a thrifty debt and mortgage free life and love every minute of it. On our channel we share: money saving, thrifty living, home cooking, budgeting, simple living and everyday frugality. We put out three videos every week at 5pm Paris time. Wednesday is our mid week money chat which has a financial focus. Friday is all about food and saving money in the kitchen from meal planning to cooking an affordable homemade meal. Sunday shows a personal side of our life and can be anything from a budgeting video to a free day out somewhere in our part of France.
Follow us on Instagram for a glimpse behind the scenes.

Long awaited hair cut. €47 for wash, cut and blow dry . I have two hair cuts a year. Best part of a French hair salon, absolutely no small talk. None of the stylists were chatting to any of the clients. If you want your hair cut in silence, France is the place. Obviously there's a conversation about what you want done to your hair. X

Still absolutely in love with the bright skies here.....and being able to dry my laundry outside in December. It's freezing cold but crisp and dry.

In case you're new or you've recently found out channel
Our frugal living looks like this. We:
Live off a written budget
Save 20% into Long term savings as nothing we own is immune from breakdowns or replacements.
Save cash for our next used car.
We are a work from home couple and have one car.
Save monthly for short term savings such as car maintenance, property tax, water, ect.
Budget for discretionary spending and some months there's nothing or around 60 as a couple that is spare and we can do whatever we want with.
We don't eat out, if we go somewhere then we take food and a flask of hot coffee with us
Meal plan
Batch cook,
Buy ingredients so if we want a treat, I have to cook it.
Dry laundry outside or on a rack inside - electricity is 24c per KWH where we live.
Heat the house with a pellet stove and the warmth circulates throughout downstairs
We wrap up in the winter- where we live doesn't get snow or ice.
We don't buy things we don't need for our well being
We buy second hand wherever possible.
We do our own home repairs and maintenance.
We have no debt.
We paid off our mortgage in 20 years.
Nice to meet you
We're Jane and Mike soon to be 60.

I will never tire of these blue skies. It's a crisp 10°c outside. French class this morning, cooked chicken in a creamy mushroom sauce with rice for lunch, changed the bed linen and it's washing ready to dry outside and done quilt seeing this afternoon.
