I would like to clear something up, because I see it all the time and it's heckin' dumb.
1. CATIA, SolidWorks, NX, Creo, and Inventor are all CAD software, like engineering stuff. Arguably throw in Fusion360 for the fairly small-scale, like a keyboard, or electronics design. There are others that fit here, but these are the main ones. If you are from Japan, Fujitsu has ICAD, which is in this category.
2. Revit, etc are Architectural software, which is a slightly different category, but I'd put it on the fringe of CAD software. Also on the fringe is AutoCAD, which has both 2D and some 3D, but it is largely used for 2D and has very limited uses in 3D. If you don't put Fusion360 in category 1, then it and other electronics/electrical CAD (eCAD) would go here.
3. Blender, Maya, 3DS Max, Houdini, Cinema4D, [C4D], Zbrush, MMD, PMX Editor, etc are all Animation software. They have their domain in 3D, but their purpose is completely different.
4. Unreal Engine and Unity. These do belong together, and arguably with the third group. But seeing as they are mostly about Game Development, and not Model Development, they are going into their own category.
Please stop calling Blender a CAD software, and don't list Solidworks as an alternative to Maya. They are not the same.
